Two questions: 1) Did your kit come with a GPS antenna for the back of the LAV?
2) Where did you get the 25mm ammo cans for the turret baskets?

Looks good

Thanks Trevor,

No, the kit did not come with the GPS antenna, i'm scratching that. And the ammo cans came from the Tamiya modern US equipment set along with the camp cots.

Good work on the rear hatch armoured shield but it looks it is missing the two armoured glass vision ports on the side facing the rear of the hull.

Jason, do you have any reference pics of these vision ports? All the pics i have of the rear are covered with kit LOL.

HI

Overall it looks to be a decent conversion. Yes, there are a few things missing but it looks like this is worthy of purchase.

Thanks for the blog.

There should be another square panel above and a bit to the left of the oval shaped hatch on the left hull side....it has a foldable rubberized cover and I think under it is almost like a solar panel.....check page 13 of the Dan Hay's LAV III walkaround on Prime Portal.

Forgot I had this pic from Wainwright, although this LAV does not have the uparmour, there should not be much difference in the basic construction. I think it's a battery charger of somekind.

Yup, they are solar panels. My Bradley I have out back in our motor pool has them also. It is supposed to help keep the batteries charged, but sometimes they dont work just right.
Im not 100% sure on how they really work, but if you want me to, I can thumb through the manuels when i get back to work next week.

here they are on a M2A0+ Bradley:

I made a mistake the other day when I asked if your kit came with a GPS antenna for the rear deck of the LAV. The antenna in question was the Digital Compass antenna. The GPS is the small nub on top of the laser warning receiver on the turret.

My kit lacks both DCS and GPS antennas

Todays installment

Installed the footman loops on the top half of the turret and the upper surfaces of the racks, just the bottom of the racks left to do. That was the biggest job today, and tidied up some other pieces.

Special thanks to Jason for some insight on the rear blast shields

This isn't as straight forward a conversion as I thought it might be. I hope the other conversions coming out will include a few more bits. Those footman loops look like they were well worth the effort. You can actually secure stowage to them. Is that the solar panel in blue on the side? What was used to make it? I am very, very impressed with your work. Looking forward to your next update.

Straight forward conversion?......Haaaaaaaa....no such thing....it's all subjective as to how many details you want to add.

Rick, nice work on modifying the M249 into a C9A2.....check your references....the barrel should also be shortened.

Hey Matt, thanks for the comments, the solar panel was made from a OPP sticker,....

just cut a square from the blue pattern

How did you make the tie-down loops on the turret? They look great. Nice work on the mirrors. I think I'll cheat and have mine folded in

Ya I was gonna fold them in too LOL, but decided what the hey.

The loops are made from 28 gage wire, you wrap around the end of a set of needle nose pliers,

and then cut the end off close to bends and there you have it.

Hi Rick. I just got my M242 25mm fluted barrel from the Victorian Hobby Centre today. I posted some pictures of it in another thread.

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/111620&page=1

I thought I'd show what it looks like if anyone was interested. Have you decided on which barrel to use?

Well the PE set from AEF came in the mail and it seems good so far, except that the wheel covers are too small a diameter for the hubs (inside hole). I will try to get a proper size hole punch and sort them out.

I used the tool bin from the Stryker kit and modified it ti fit.

So far so good.

Hopefully my resin wheels from Miloslav will come in this week and get this thing painted!

cheers

Got my shipment in from Real Models (thanks Miloslav!)

Were down to the nitty gritty stuff now, hoping to get this one and the Leopard done before heading down to Texas for excersise.

With the AEF Designs PE I added some brass tubing to make the step ring.

Those wheels look great. Have you received your new barrel yet?. I could always mail you mine. I have a lot on my modeling plate at the moment and won't be getting around to a LAV for a little while yet. Besides I think Miloslav's conversion will include one.

From Australia??? I thought you were getting the one from Barrel Depot in Canada?? I had first ordered the one from australia but it is nothing compared to te one from Barrel depot. Trust me on this one. The difference is like day and night.
