It is good to see some Japanese figures being released, although I think the USMC inclusion is a bit worn. It would do it for me to see a set of Australian Infantry come out in tandem with some Japs.
It would be a nice change to see a set out to commemorate a battle like Milne Bay (the first land victory over Japanese forces in WW2) instead of the manufacturers producing figures with Guadalcanal or Iwo Jima in mind.
The actual figures are in very interesting poses, action packed. I understand it is still a WIP but the Japanese drinking flasks look a tad small. The faces need some work in my opinion, as they look hardly Japanese.

Terrific news, The Japanese look a bit tall compared to the Marines though, maybe they'll refine them downwards:) . I really like the way the groups interact.
I can understand the desire for Australian troops but we're not exactly spoilt for choice as regards Marines in plastic.

I LOVE MASTERBOX!
Thanks for making so many "fun" figures actually doing something. I've bought all of their U.S. sets and several German and Russian sets. I'll buy these as well. Keep them coming, Masterbox. You're filling a niche.

That is a very nice set up. I agree the action in the figures is great. I wonder if other companies are listen to the comments about releases like this?

I love the new set and will, yet again, buy some more sets. I know the debate has been brought up in the past, but if the market is calling for German subjects why is Masterbox continuing to release imaginative sets and subjects such as this. I realize that Marines have been done before, but Japanese troops haven't been done too recently as well as A bagpiper from their upcoming Commonwealth set. Granted I have no complaints but it just makes me happy knowing Masterbox is willing to release sets like this.

It seems to me that Japanese infantry are almost always portrayed in a banzai charge. It's a bit tiresome.

As others have said that USMC figures are also light on the ground. Milne Bay or Isarava (Kokoda) Aussies are easily done from the new 8th Army figures and later ones would be easily done from these guys by changing the webbing pouches and adding Aust helmets or Slouch hats & SMLE's, Thompsons and Brens.
I would love to see them do a set of 2/14 or 39 Bn in such poses but these will do fine until that day. I can easily convert these guys so they are much appreciated.
The lineup these guys are offering is great and I can't wait for these and the other new allied sets they ofer.

Al, 1/35 Aussies must be floating on air if USMC is light on the ground.
I myself have done plenty of conversions to model Australian Infantry, it is great fun but sometimes I just wish the Aussies/commonwealth got a bit more modelling attention. Other necessary conversions are shaving off webbing, un-buttoning tunics, adding American gaiters, lengthening shorts to make american greens. If a manufacturer did decide to take up the challenge, I bet they would find it hard to produce authentic Aussies. They were, after all, such a ragged bunch their uniforms differed from place to place, man to man.
I am pleased with the Japanese figures this company is working on.

Well, let's start with some more common Commonwealth troops. Yes, there are several good sets from DML and Tamiya but troops with rolled sleeves in the ETO would be nice for example. But I do agree with the desire for more 'obscure', non-German subjects

BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO! Seems Masterbox isn't afraid to think "out-of-the box" (no pun intended). Tamiya is releasing a 1/35 Japanese Staff car (according to Greatmodels) and now this! I've been searching for Japanese and Pacific war Allied figures for a very long time.
Thanks Masterbox.

I knew it was too good to be true. Maybe later they'll scale up their Citroen and Japanese car to 1/35.....am I just a dreamer?!
Thanks for the heads up.

You are right in there being bugger all of them. I used to convert the old Airfix Multipose sets of 8th Army by mixing with the US marines for SWPA guys.
How I wish Hornby / Airfix would retool the multipose line to 35th and add detailed weapons. If they stick with the same poses etc but just rescaled and tidied up they would be on a winner.
Cheers

Regardles of subject (although I do think they do well in this respect too) Masterbox are 100% on the ball with their figure sets, as the imaginative, action packed poses that can interact with one another is exactly what we as modellers are after at the moment.
Well done masterbox for pushing the boat out and succeding, in my experience they are producing some of, if not the best figure sets today.
Just keep em coming!
(and please lets have some Tommie's in action!)

First of all, much as I agree with the genuine desire to see Australian infantry, I don't see them as particularly 'viable' financially.
As to USMC sets in plastic - we're NOT exactly overflowing with them. Only one set (DML's) is a modern moulding....

Why is it that when someone takes the time to post a new figure kit release or review of one, 50% of the responses involve the bemoaning of a preferred figure agenda.
I mean we all wish someone would come out with a 1/35th set of " Charlies Angels " or the " Spice Girls ", ......................but come on the title post does say USMC & JAPANESE INFANTRY ?
Don't get me wrong I'm on board with the bemoaners for the most part. I want early US Marines, [ tin pots and Springfields } early Ozzies, Philippine Scouts, and Commonwealth troops from the Pacific theater. That would be very cool.
What we as modelers need to do is post a petition here on Armorama of what we want, [ in a seperate new topic ] have members log on to the wish list and send it to manufactures.
That's the only way they are going to continue not making what we really want, l.o.l.
Ok that's enough coffee for me .......

Glenn,
Firstly I agree with your comment .
The best thing is Masterbox is taking note of modellers request on this site and are going that little step forward and as all the posts indicate they are leaps and bounds ahead of resin and plastic manufacturers.
For example
I'm quite sure there would be at least 50% of modellers who do Armour subjects have a Tamiya 25 pounder tucked away in there stash .
For the likes of say Masterbox to produce a commonwealth gun crew firing this field piece would be financially a "viable" thing .
Being the fact this field piece was used by English as well as Australians in the middle east and pacific .
Its a big wish but, hey,I am extremely happy with the early images on the latest project.
