So far this looks like the best C1 build I have looked at so far. All that's missing besides the track, is the hatchet needs to come out of it's bracket and get fitted in the turret grab handle over the drivers hatch, and throw some rubber gumbies and wash basins in the open bin at the back of the turret. Right Jason?

Jerry Can

The jerry can should be plastic type ,missing napha can bracket. Metal jerries were gone from the system in the late 80's .Build looks good, makes me want to break the plastic and build one as well...............

My 2 cents

Cheers

Looks good Rick.

Slightly off topic question, are the sets still available to build a C1 late? I was under the impression that they were OOP but if I am wrong then I need to order them as I still want to add a C1 late to my collection.

Always good to see more Canadian Armour being built. Welcome home Rick!

I have the osprey book on the Leopard C1, I can make you a colour copy in PDF for $10 if you'd like.

Steve, you realize that is illegal right? That is why we have copyright laws. Not a smart thing to post in an open forum.

Hallo,
this was a very interesting and informative topic!
Though I cannot start with my C1 early and late tomorrow, but it will certainly help me if I'll do. Thanks to you all. You do not find such intensive help everywhere!

What do the jerry cans plastic type and napha can bracket look like? To be true, I simply do not know what a napha can is [oil-can?].
Hope you can help.

The 1/35 plastic fuel jerry cans are sold by Maple Leaf Models.

The Naptha can bracket was not carried on all Leopard C1s....none of the Leopard C1s I commanded in Canada had them mounted. It looked like a small jerry can bracket and was mounted in between the two jerry can brackets on the back of the turret.....Naptha is another name for camping fuel...it is also called "white gas".....it is used for the two burner Coleman camping stove carried on the tank......Naptha cans are actually included in the MR Models Canadian M113A2 conversion set....they look like little stubby plastic jerry cans.

The Naptha can brackets seemed to be far more common of C1s in Germany and Gagetown.

Well I did manage to remove the hatchet last night and have the corresponding gash in my left thumb to show for it LOL

Thanks Anthony, I also modified the jerry can for a plastic style, have not been able to find a pic of the naptha can bracket, still looking though

Thanks Rob, I was just on JP's web site and it does seem like his C1 kits are OOP. Maybe if we spam his e-mail,...

And thanks everyone for your interest in this blog!!

Jason,

I would be interested in seeing that bracket too (assuming I can't find a picture of one in my collection but I haven't had time to check a couple of work projects have to get done first).

What color are those naptha cans? From my memory we we were just using basic red plastic cans we bought at Canadian Tire when I was in the Recce Regiment. Never had the chance to see any mounted on a Leo while I was in Gagetown.

Rick I managed to find the conversion Trackjam still had them. It is already on order. Very happy about that.

Yup, no problem......as soon as I find them amongst the bazillion Leopard C1 images I have I will post them.

The Naptha cans are bright green with a orange cap retainer.....I might have an image of a Naptha can too.

As requested......the Naptha can bracket in between the two jerry can brackets and an image of a Naptha can. The bracket is a very simple bracket.....some of them had the reinforcing angled bracket on the bottom and some didn't.

Thanks for the pic Jason, that should not be too hard to scratch.

Yes Darren, my original plan was to omit the top run, but in the long run would have been more of a PITA with regards to setting the tension.

Nice Jason thanks for the pics.

Rick tracks are looking good, do you have enough for the full second run? I ran into problems when I did my C1 early I broke a few and ran short.

Thanks Rob,

I had one link, no center guides and one end connector left over LOL. That was with 84 links per side. Mind you I did start the tracks over a year ago and had to move my model stuff twice since.

I also managed to loose the barrel for the main gun, thanks Art for the replacement!

Hi Rick
Sorry I'm coming into this so late-I've been following your Build log the last few days and your doing a great job- I'd like to do a Canadian Leopard myself. Is the Tamiya kit any good? And what is the Italeri kit # that you used? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work !!

Richard,

There is an excellent chart on the Maple Leaf Models website which will give you the kits to use and which of his resin conversions will build which variant. If you really want to do a Canadian Leo that is the site to check. Most people work with the Italeri kit #224 when building C1 Leopards and the Revell Leopard 1A5 kits when building C2 projects. The Modern Canadian discussion group will give you a good source of information and a place to target your questions.

Site links for you:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/169232/
http://www.mapleleafmodels.com/
http://www.trackjam.com/

The Tamiya kit really isn't the best one to work with. Others can give you more information I am sure. Hope this helps.

A long-lasting project that reaches a brilliant end Rick. Very instructive (to me at least).
I have a couple of Canuck steel projects in my stash and your C1 (and the bucn of comments it raised) will certainly help.

Really nice work Rick,

Let me know if you are going to add the cables for the PZB 200 and IRS 100....I can explain the connections.

The pioneer tools look great.....and the 7.62 mm ammo box for heating rations on the exhaust.
