Looks interesting, but i have to admit I am kind of confused about the yellow color over the gray.
is it field applied paint? that is the first impression I got, and that is consistent with the lack of paint around the markings and AA fixture and the presence of the DAK symbol, but then why is their paint on the windshield that the wipers have partially wiped away? That makes it look like it is supposed to be road dust - in which case I don't see why the AA area would be immune from it.

Here's the gun, Dragon flak38. Note thes cratchbuilt retaining "Shoes" that will mount the gun to the bed. Still more painting to be done on the truck and the gun, but I'm nearly done.

A lot of DAK vehicles were covered by mud due to the lack of yellow paint for the start of the campaign. The mud was applied by hand, brooms, etc. This gave a "scruffy" look. This mud was also applied to the windows to reduce the risk of reflections from sunlight. It looks like this mud effect is what Dave is trying to recreate, but I am not sure.
Dave, looking forward to see more

Hoi dave,
it's looking good so far.
I'm building the Opel Maultier with 38 flak and I 'll be happy when I achieve 50% of your skills.
When I'm ready, I'll post some of my photo's.

Dave -
Looks good. Like the way you've created a field applied desert color over the original grey, while incorporating the AA mount. Nicely done. Looking forward to the vehicle placed in a diorama setting, should be pretty neat.
Thanks for sharing your work, appreciate it! Cheers!

Thanks Tim,
I hope the dio. will be worth the wait! Planning on having it done by the end of March and entering it in the IPMS show in Va. Beach that's in August.

Thanks to All for your more than kind words.
The painting was done by hand with cheap Wal-Mart "Plaid Brand" acrylics (68cents a bottle), mixed to yield the appropriate colour and 35 year old Grummbacher brushes. Dry brush technique I've developed over the years, a little luck and there you have it, the Opel Blitz/flak38.
Nothing special I assure you, if it looks right - do it, if not, find another approach. That's what I've done for years.
Thanks for all of your enthusiasm - it really means a lot,

great work so far Dave.
I particularly like your groundwork, an excellent job there.
2 tips:
1. Be careful with your dry-brushing, it should be used as a more subtle technique, and you have gone to town a bit here, meaning the paint is quite thick in places.
2. Your roadsign says 'mines 15km' which is a bit wierd. Don't know if you confused it with a place name, but I doubt a roadsign would warn you about mines 15 km away.
Good luck getting this one finished, it'll be one nice scene when done.

I think that says "Minen! 5km", not "Minen 15km". 5km is a little more pressing, especially if you are driving (in which case you'll be at the mine field in a couple minutes).
