Yes interior is scratchbuilt.

Got the black done. Just need to fix an error in the pattern on the rear deck and touch up the edges and overspray and the cam job is done.

And got the bar painted and started on some hull detail. Its beginning to look like an ASLAV now.

I removed the trim vane and started it again as i wasnt happy with it. Its now getting the MH communications gear too.

Hopefully i should be able to get the majority of the detail done tomorrow and get a gloss clear coat on it. Then I can leave it to set for a week or two before the Decals go on. Ive got the Echelon ASLAV set, plus the callsign and name which I've printed myself.

Mate.
You have done a really good job with the model. I am a crew commander of an ASLAV 25 up in Darwin and I'm impressed by your level of interior detail mate. I take it you will end up making this an Iraq campaign era vehicle??

Got some more done.

Tried twice but i just coudn't seem to get the Decal for the side stowage bin on. Both times the ink on it bled, and i just couldnt get them to sit properly.

So- I ended up painting it. Not as good a result as the Decal, but im happy with it. May just touch it up a little bit- maybe add some more 'diamonds' to the edges.

Whole top was painted green. Picture shows how i did the stencil.

Then black and the tan last.

Base colors before the dots.

Decals done. The custom ones I printed for the name are thicker and not as dark a black as the echelon ones, but once its washed and weathered i should be able to blend it a bit better. Had to put up with the thickness to stop the ink running.

You can also see the side bin paint completed. Whole thing is still in gloss, now for a pin wash and flat coat, then its finally on to weathering.

Ray, excellent work, very complex subject. I love being able to look inside, all the movable bits really show off the vehicle.
What a drag that the decals for the box didn't work out but you certainly did what a good modeller would to fix the problem the old fashion way. Any thoughts on how the decals could be made better to stop the bleeding?
Can't wait to see this all weathered up, it certainly is a labor of love.
Regards
Bill

I had a similar problem with the lozenge decals, and after speaking to Jason I hit them with Testors decal set spray. They worked perfectly after that!

Wash done. Used an enamal brown/tan. Still in gloss at the moment. Not happy with the tyres either, will clean and do them again.

I added the other sides red kangaroo before the wash too.

The wash has exposed some flaws that im not happy about, but will have to live with. You can see how thick the decals i printed are. Its obvious with gloss, but im hoping when its flat coated it will also be a little less visible. May also be able to hide it a bit more with pigments- ill see how i go.

Also- something i didnt even consider! The inside of the hinges arent sealed with paint! Oh well live and learn.
When the enamel wash seeped into the hinges it has eaten the plastic away- it destroyed one hinge on the drivers side hatch, both hinges on the right hand top hatch and one hinge on the left hand top hatch. Not sure yet if i can save them or need to remove all hatches and completely re scratch the hinges. Knocked off the drivers side handle when handling it too. Oops.

And you can also see the wash has run into the gap between the plastic of the top hatches and the interior spall lining, warping it. Will need to remove and re make the lining.

The rear doors survived though.

And another photo of 22C with a Trumpeter OOB Built OC. I use that one just as a test before i apply anything to the detailed one.
Same one as in this thread

This is why im going to re do the tyres. Driving in loose dry sand actually cleans out the inside of the tread. So ill clean the wash ive done off and give the grey/rubbery tyre a wash of black so the treads look clean. Then ill dry brush the outer tread with the tan and then dust the whole tyre with pigment.

Hopfully they will end up looking like this.

Mate looking good.
But what you have done is the reason I don't use enamel based washes. Pigments and Blue "Windex". Works a treat.

Cheers Jase. Interesting... Will windex strip acrylic? I figure it would be alcohol based?

I haven't had any problem putting it over Tamyia, or Model Colour. It will leave "Tide Marks"in places, but as you know when the dusty car gets wet, the drying rate can differ on parts. But the best thing about it is that you can do multiple coats and multiple shades and wash it off in places as well using straight Windex.
I also airbrush Model Colour and thin it with Windex. But remember to use the blue version. As the clear one will produce foam from the end of your gun because it has more detergent.

Cheers Jason

Excellent paint job Ray. It's a pity your wash partly ruined your efforts. I'm sure you're skilled enough to fix it anyway.

Is the hexagon camo on the side bin tarp present on all the ASLAVs ? It looks challenging to make it with masking tape. But it certainly is a good lesson on how painting a modern Chinese MBT/APC
