This is one of my latest builds, Coyote Recce Vehicle.
The donor kit is a Trumpeter LAV-25 while the rest is from Evergreen plastics. I spent some time digging around the internet for info and reference and came up short on certain areas. Prime Portal has a great walk around but was missing shots along the top of the hull. I do have enough to start, so I’m hoping some of you may have those pics.
Also feel free to jump in with any thoughts, ideas or just about any info you may want to share along with the others who may follow along and want to build one in the future. I will post pics in the next day or two of the progress.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Great !! , looking forward to your progress. I want to build one of these someday so I've at least started to accumulate some kits.

Starting has begun, the mast is made and reference drawing are done. The mast is not collapsible as I original planed, but will be removable. The sides of the hull have had the side details removed and sanded smooth. More to come…

Joe,
You might want to inquire on the Modern Canadian Forum (
http://www.network54.com/Forum/169232/ )to see if anyone there has photos on the details you are needing. Some great resources over there (and some of them also frequent Armorama) might have or can get you just what you are needing.
I am looking forward to watching your build progress.

I have some of a Coyote model built if you are interested. Some general LAV III pictures of above, I don't know how the Coyote differs from the LAVIII other than the telescoping sensor array.

Seems like it's gonna be quite a difficult build... Yep, what's the difference? The internal systems?

Guys....the LAV Coyote Recce and the LAV III and two totally different vehicles.......they only share the common 25 mm turret.......the hulls are not the same at all.....no share parts in the hull........the LAV III hull is based on, well, the LAV III.....and the Coyote hull is based on the LAV 25 hull.......even the tires are very different.
Joe, Good to see you tackling this project.......I am sure it will turn out very nicely. Are you planning to build it with or without the add-on armour on the turret and the hull?
Maple Leaf Models is coming out with a LAV Coyote Recce conversion for the Trumpeter LAV 25 kit in the future......I have seen the masters and they are very nicely done.
That being said don't be surprised if there is another Coyote conversion released down the road by another very fine model producer and master builder extraordinaire that has already produced an awesome LAV 25 mm turret for his LAV III conversion........you should all figure out the veiled hints. Just speculation on by behalf but it would be a good fit.

HI
Are you an uparmoured version or a plain Jane one? I have a lot of pics of the latter.

Jason
Sorry about that, I should know better, we've been through this before you and I. So the LAV III is based on the Stryker hull as per the Real Model conversion, and the Coyote is based on the LAV 25 like Trumpeter of by the Italeri Mortar carrier (if you can find one), is that right?
Do other LAV 25 vehicles share any on deck similarities like on a Bison for instance? If there is then I have some details that might help, but Tom Rea probably has it covered.
Jason I have heard that rumor as well and I heard there might even be a Bison as well.
Thanks for the clarification

Wow… thanks for the help guys

much appreciated.
Bill, Rob thanks for the photos and links, they too will help a ton.
Jay, I plan on doing the added armor and have seen the products at Maple Leaf, AEF also has a bunch of top resin conversion for Canadian armor. I bought their 1/35 Canadian Cougar 6X6 conversion, but will have to scratch the rest of the armor kits due to cost. Besides I love to scratch build….
Are you goning to use some AM for the radar section or do it fully scratch? This will be fully scratced out....
Are you an uparmoured version or a plain Jane Depends on the time I have, I need to finish this by the 12 of April…theres a local IPMS contest I’d like to entry this year. I’d like to do a armor entry in the scratch/conversion spot. Fingers crossed
Bill nice model, is it 1/35th...I'm sure it is. Who built it, and had an interior, sweet!
Again Thanks guys

Happy Modeling,
Joe

That Coyote was built a few years back by Canadian modeller Shane MacKay.....he has also done the master for the upcoming MLM Coyote Recce conversion.

Jason (and the rest of the gang here):
Shane McKay built that Coyote model for the RMMC show in 1999, to be exact. It took the trophy for Best Canadian Armour that year. I remember providing him copies of some of the unclassified items to help him build it when I was at 41 Brigade HQ then.
Nice to see it again. Good luck with your builds (look forward to seeing the MLM masters).
PS: I live just about 25 minutes away from JP and MLM in Eastern Ontario.

Yup, I know....I was at the show. Unfortunetely Shane MacKay's Coyote is no more....a bit of damage, a bit of scavenging spare parts, and I believe he has what bits are remaining in a spare parts box. He did a really nice job...but...his new Coyote master is even better.
Art....didn't you have an AVGP or a LAV book on the go? What the heck happended?

If you have any burning questions about the Coyote just PM. I was with the Product test team, way back in 96, before we got them in 97. I have loads of photos from 96-2008.I have been across the pond in one of them a few times. At photobucket.com, search under ldshrecceboy, for lots of photos.
Cheers

Jay, Art thanks for the info. Anthony thanks for the offer, I'm thinking of doing a second with an interior, need to finish my Stryker interior first. The second Coyote Recce Vehicle I want to do will have the mast down.
Alright here's a question of measurements. In these pics circled what sizes would (boxes) be, or at least close. I have them at/around (1 blue) @ 12’’-15” X 12”-15” (2 red) @ 19”- 22” X 16”-18”….sound close?

Jason:
In regards to the LAV & AVGP books, I have had to back away from both projects because of some recent health issues. However, Clive at Service Pub's is still looking for somebody to author them (interested????).

Well I’m just about done with the electronic boxes, a few tweaks and wiring and I’m off to start the upper hull scratch work. More to follow…and 6 days left.
