The Jackal is made by DML !! (= Devonport Management Limited which is a Plymouth based company) It's indeed based on the Supacat HMT 400 truck.

Guys...... if you google SUPACAT you can get the link straight to the jackel manufactorers site, it gives pictures and measurements etc...also to MoDs website gives you access to lots of modern Brit equipment photos, including the jackel, (mod.uk/defenceinternet/defencenews) also news and links to interesting stuff.

Vehicle specification page
http://www.supacat.com/products/hmt/hmt-400/specification/
It would make a very nice kit. Right up Trumpeter's or Hobbyboss's alley... wink, wink!

[quote]Another pic from the Land Rover thread earlier this month.
Very cool looking vehicle, hard to hide in however, a bit exposed.
Bill[/quote
i believe its not supposed to be hidden, mostly its used by the fire support group, they provide fire support for boots on the ground, as sthey are normaly on the high ground.

What I meant by that was that the troops inside must feel a bit exposed as there isn't a lot between you and incoming rounds. While the rest of the world is going to MRAP's ,FRAG 6 HMMWV's and Strykers these look a little thin skinned. Having said that I realize that these are not fighting in a enclosed urban environment and I bet these can go where the other monster trucks can't. I have always liked the role of Land Rovers, stripped down HMMWV's and the like, a different kind of fighting.
Cheers

The NARY is the SASR version to replace the expired LRPV's. It will be in both 6 and 4 wheel formats and is named after WO2 Dave Nary who was an SASR Warrant Officer Killed in a training accident in Kuwait or Dubai. Dave was akeen modeller in 35th and 1/6th an frequented the 1/6th Forums as TF 64. I new Dave from early in his career and this is a fitting tribute to a great soldier.
Cheers

hi boggie
we have gone down the mrap route with mastiff, coyotte etc, the jackal from what i have read it is supposed, to go mainly cross country and protect the flanks of convoys or provide fire support, there was a tv programme that showed them in use, but i can't remember which one, they have added armour to the driver and passenger compartment as your photos showed

This vehicle is such a strange evolution from the LRPV's in some ways. The LRPV were an interesting and unique adaptation from the Land Rover/Perentie platforms customized to suit the unique roll of the SASR. i guess the SUAPCAT vehicle is custom built for the task and in that way more user friendly. I would think that SUAPCAT had a lot of input from troopers that were to use them, hence their unusual design? How different are the British and Aussie versions if any?
Thanks for your insights and RIP to your friend.

After I wrote you I searched and found many articles about the politics involved around the SUPACAT contract, don't want to go there. I too saw a video showing the Jackals in Afghanistan and they used in the way you described. Lets hope that the Accurate Armours offering will be accurate and less expensive than usual.
Regards

I quite like the Extenda version witch changes the 4 wheel version to a 6 wheel version by adding an extra axle and flat-bed, though to be honest I can't really see it being used that much, cos if you need a 6 wheel version you might as wellbuy the 6 wheel version.

i think the chances of a reasonably priced kit from accurate are pretty remote, but here's hoping.

I have not seen any pictures from Accurate Armour, but they are making the kit inconjunction with Supacat. The 'bare' Jackal is in service with Special Forces and I have included a link to my walk round below. Price...I shudder to think!
