Just don't say you want it "somewhat realistic" without expecting some "real" discussion.

I suppose what I am after is a realistic approach to an unrealistic concept. I have drawn a mental line in the sand as far as realism is concerned and I may be the only one who knows when I have crossed it. Therefore some topics just seem to me to be unnecessary. Either too realistic (Tigers couldn't get on the moon!) or too fantastic (They could with anti-gravity!)

It is hard to explain...

Maybe I only want one heavy dose of unreality and anything else is too much... The tiger is on the moon, this is an unrealistic setting, but everything else about the piece must be finished in as realistic a fasion as I can. Thus, discussions on workable anti-gravity in the mid 1940s are moot as this would add an unrealistic element to the already unrealistic situation. Too much for me!

I suppose it is similar to the idea of creating paper-panzers. You propose an unrealistic miliu but still want to finish the vehicle a realistic way.

It is difficult...

One reality is that all of my local hobby shops have no stock of the donor model I was considering (Dragon 3-in-1 late Tiger) so this project will be on hold for a week or two.

pimpdogbert: The tiger will use a compartmentalized oxygen storage system that will be compatable with the crew suits, so if long periods outside the tank are necessary the crew can use the tank's oxygen cells / caplets.

What we need alongside this is a "Lunar M6 Heavy" to combat that Tiger.

Paul

I might start that I was thinking about that but I would prolly paint it In olive drab just to be a smart . Hey warning its a really good idea I will be following this build. I had an ide for stowage on your Tiger why not put some of the crew oxy tanks on the outside.

Cheers Alex

well, well...great to hear that someone else has also gotten inspired
Why not go for it Alex !?

Warning:

The thing whit amount of realism in a "what if" project is all up to he builder, what he wants, how it "looks like" in his head, and his own vision of the "past future".
Though some people might have their views on what is plausable for a what if vehicle, but in the end it can differ ALOT from person to person on their perception on what unrealistic realism might be/ look like.

But in the end it's your project and your "what if" vision that is about to take form, so reflect on what others might think and say , but in the end go your own way!

Happy building Warning. I'll be sure to follow this project.

Are there any kits of the m6? Or should I do a Sherman tank? Sorry Warning for posting on your thread but I thought that since you got so many to reply to your thread I would use it to my advantage.

You could always go the Battlezone route:

LOL, I figured the funny Photoshop cooked images would appear soon enough in this thread. Houston, the Tiger has landed! One small step for the Panzertroopen, one giant leap for armour warfare! Van Braun would be jealous!

Well lets keep this one open. It seems like a good idea cause some of us can look on here for influence and get advice on our own "Space Tanks". And since so many have replied and myself included, "got a fire lit under us" have been using this thread as refrence material since so little is available on the subject. Including Christian who's Mars King Tiger I can't wait to see. Well I put my two cents in, time to hash out my Moon Sherman to combat Warnings Tiger. I hope to see Warnings Tiger soon!

I wasn't suggesting it be deleted, just locked. Warsawpact has his own thread for his Mars KT project and I assumed that other similar projects would have their own individual threads.

However, if someone else wishes to use this thread to discuss further lunar projects then I have no problem with that.

A Sherman can combat a Tiger, lunar or otherwise?

No way Warsawpact started his build what the frell! I'm the only one laggin behind ( I still need to get the dough to purchase mine!) Hmmm well how bout a M4A3 model to combat the Tiger. Well I know the Tiger far surpasses the Sherman in armor and fire power but one can hope if you choose to down gun the Tiger with the autoloader option I can have a chance. Or I might choose to upgun my Sherman to the prototype 90mm gun. Well happy modelling .

Can't believe no one thought of this yet, but a Moon Tiger would need some sort of IR system for the periods of darkness during certain phases of the Moon. It's a natural as an IR system would work really well to help pick up the heat signatures of enemy vehicles.

Given that a projectile from a main gun would travel further owing to the Moon's lesser gravity, several IR lamps on the turret top might be an advantage to illuminating the battlefield at a great distance. Maybe a row of lamps something like that seen on off-road vehicles.

A Moon Tiger could have normal driving blackout lights, but perhaps with red lenses as red light is well known to not stand out as well as other colors such as blue. I'd think that a normal white light clear lens with a black out slit on the lamp would not be enough. With no atmosphere to dissipate the light, it would probably still be visible from a great distance. So red light is what I think would be called for here.

Convoy lights in the rear could be blue or purple as these colors do transmit well in darkness. Purple might be better as I'd think it wouldn't throw a bright reflective glare as easily as blue.

Way ahead of you.

5. The bow gun station will be replaced with a camera and low-light optical system. This will be linked to a secondary system positioned in the turret. The drivers periscope will be replaced with a much more rudimentary binocular system as this will only act as a backup to the newer electronic vision unit.

Oops. Must've missed that.

Still like the idea of a row of IR lamps and the purple convoy light...

Hahah, yeah, stop dragging those feet
Some kind of slightly up gunned Sherman might be in order to combat the tiger so that the allies get a bit more bang for their buck. Shipping countless "standard" shermans to germany might work to keep the losses covered but it will not work in space. How about a up-armored Moon Firefly or the M6 Heavy Tank? But we could talk more about that when you start your thread.

And Warning...I can't wait to see how your Moon Tiger will look like Warning, maybe i can get some inspiration from it to use on my Mars KT.
I bet it'll look fantastic as since you're going to use the splendid Late Tiger (3-in-1) Kit from Dragon!
