From what i can remember tamiya retooled the m113(iraq) as the road wheels now have rims on,and was missed on the old classic kit .so parts may now fit better.

Hi James,
The extension to the trim vane lip is two thicknesses of 0.020 x 0.125 inch strip laminated. I guess that makes it 0.04 thick. Whichever you use, the end result should be very close to, or the same thickness as the lip on the trim vane. The folding extension flap is a single thickness of 0.020 x 0.125 inch strip. The hinges were made from tiny bits of scrap.

[ There were Leopard spares in Dili at the time, so it sounded feasable to us.

Hello Jason,
The squadron of Leopards ( A Sqn , 1AR) that was part of the theatre reserve (with C Coy, 5/7RAR) during the initial part of the INTERFET intervention never made it to Dili or any part of EM at any stage. The tanks didn't leave Australian shores.
It would have been great if they had, the plan for deployment was a road run along the Stuart Highway from Robertson, bomb up at RAAF Darwin and down to the boat. Very, very simple but an OPSEC nightmare.
[How's the new bub, BTW ?]
Regards,
Greg

Also the hull of the vehicle you are building is for a regualr M113-M113A2. The FSV used the M113A2 hull but also carried on the extra fuel tanks on the rear of the vehicle, giving it an M113A3 look, but not actually an A3.
Ric
What? - The M113A1 FSV as the name implies were built on the M113 A1 hull ONLY. They were that way when introduced to service and that way when converted on the rebuild line to M113 A1 MRV with the Scorpion Turret. At no stage in the life of either the FSV or MRV did they ever get an A2 upgrade or External Fuel cells.
I served a lot of my career around these vehicles (and still passionately hate them) from 83 until they were retired in the mid/late 90's.
Cheers

so which country will your FSV be representing? Aussie, or American, or course who knows what all countrys we sold it to...lol
The FSV was uniquely Australian being a mating of the obsolete Saladin Armd Car (UK) with the M113A1 hull. The US sold us the hull only and the FSV and later MRV were converted in Australia from Local Saladins and later imported Scorpion Turrets especially for the MRV project.
Some surplus FSV hulls were sold to New Zealand but not used as MRV or FSV.
THe FSV saw service towards the end of the Vietnam War with the Australian Cavalry Sqn and soldiered on in the Medium Recon Regts (2 CAV, 4/19, 8/13, 1/15, 10LH and 12/16) post vietnam. They were never deployed overseas other than the trial and service in Vietnam. They were retired from service around 97 for OH&S reasons (as were the Brit Scorpion CVR(T)).
Cheers

Ric already responded with a clarification...Ric thought he was building an M981 FIST-V, not an Aussie FSV.

Jas is right there were LEO spares in ET, saw the road wheels myself LOL.
But no tanks or crews, apart from 10 diggers loan to 5/7 as crews.
The rest of the regt was putting up tents for the refugees in Darwin.
As for the 5/7 road run to the wharf. It was quite a laught to see up to 11 M113A1, fully bombed up, broken down between Robbo and the wharf.

Australian to English translation (beta):
Jason is right the were Leopard 1 spare parts in East Timor, I was the road wheels myself. But there were no tanks or crews, apart from 10 soldiers on loan to the 5th/7th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (Mechanised) as crews. The rest of the regiment was putting up tents for the refugees in Darwin. As for the 5th/7th road run to the wharf, it was quite a laugh to see 11 M113A1 APCs fully loaded with fuel and ammunition broken down between Robertson Barracks and the wharf.
You know, I could almost understand that.

Look Good
One big remark: the engine grid can be easily upgraded.
If you dont want to invest in PE you can buy one from Verlinden or you can use the small plastic grids that are used to decorated cars during wedding (at least we are doing that in France).
And you can use pastels to dust more the beast and silver color pencil to represent the paint chips on the wall of the M113, Jungle is a good paint remover.
But an overall good build congrat
Cheers

Nice work mate. At the end of the day, we all build for ourselves, but you should know:
1 we used the FSV's in 'Nam post-68, so that means most, if not all since they were rebuilds, would've been in Australia's own lustreless olive drab. Even using Tamiya's OD2 still makes the colour too green.
2 too clean/not enough dirt. VietNam was a notoriously muddy place, & not uniformly red either as some might be led to believe. IIRC, someone posted a thread on here outlining the difference in dirt colour between the north & the south
