I'll be following this, the M113 is probably my favorite series of vehicles. Let us know any difficulties with the kit.

Why are you bothering to mix pieces form the M113A3 (really and A2 with a few A3 pieces) kit? It is the same basic kit with a new sprue to add the newer pieces. The rear hatch and front glacis are not an improvement over the FSV ones, just in a different color.

A forum note...Please try writing in complete sentances and using punctuation. It makes your posts much easier to understand.

Also the hull of the vehicle you are building is for a regualr M113-M113A2. The FSV used the M113A2 hull but also carried on the extra fuel tanks on the rear of the vehicle, giving it an M113A3 look, but not actually an A3.

Actually, the Aussie Fire Support Vehicle used in Vietnam was built on an A1 hull and did not have the external fuel tanks. A later, upgraded A2 version was used with a different turret and the addition of the external fuel tanks. It didn't come about until the early '80s though. It was used by the Aussies up until a few years ago. The UN Operation in East Timor was the last place they were used before being retired.

The Tamyia FSV (Saladin Turret) kit needs quite a bit of work on the hull top to bring it up to spec. The turret ring is too small for starters along with a host of other bits and pieces.

The AFV Club MRV (miss labelled as FSV) has the Scorpion turret. Both were made on the A1 hull and neither had external fuel cells. The MRV was equipped with flotation cells on the front and sides.
The MRV was retired from Line Troops and Sqn's in the mid 90's and never served in ET, sorry Gino.

It's possible you did mate. I can still remember a rumour from the time when we were all getting ready for ET, that a few MRV's were supposed to be coming back into service for the trip. There were Leopard spares in Dili at the time, so it sounded feasable to us.
And just a side note on the FSV/MRV hulls, all of them have now been cut up for the AS4 M113 extensions.

The FSV was a local (Australian) mod made from old turrets from Saladian Armoured Cars fitted to a modified hull top.

As for the MRV, you should be able to still pick one up from either ebay. Internet Hobbies seem to have one.

They shouldn't. They are the same pieces, from the same molds. The only difference is the color. Tamiya didn't change the molds between the A1 version and the new Desert/OIF version.

Its looking good, just a strange way to build it.

As you are modeling a Saladin FSV serving in Vietnam I would mount the smoke discharger mounts parts C15+C23 but not partC6. the actual barrels were removed leaving a flat rectangular plate.

Don't forget the extended splash board (because of the added weight).

Only a couple of tips as you have almost completed the project.

Mouse Armour do a set of decals for the 8 FSVs that served in Vietnam

Newfish,

It looks like this, though my dimensions are probably a little off, I eyeballed it. You actually need two extensions - the first to the trim vane itself, and then the hinged extension, which is not full width as it needs to clear the left headlight cluster.

(sorry about the pic quality)

Many Australian M113 based vehicles also carry jerrycan racks above the rear mudguards - again, these are only approximations.

In the pic above, you can see a thin light coloured strip on the front underside of the sponsons. On the full size vehicle, this is an applique armour plate which is attached to the underside of the sponsons (on both sides) and runs from just aft of the drive sprocket to above the centre of the third roadwheel. .The FSV is most often seen without the side skirts, so iIf you choose to leave these off, you may wish to add the armour plates. Naturally, if you leave the skirts on, these won't be visible.

Edit: You may also consider adding the boot between the moving portion of the barrel and the collar on the mantlet.
