Well, for me anyway....
I picked up a Tamiya 1/35 Pak 40 kit for $ 5.60 today. I figured what the heck, it's cheap. And nobody makes it in 1/48. I have the 3 figures from the 37mm AT gun, left over from some wargaming stuff years ago; put together but not painted. I can get the Panzer Grenadier set for about the same price for rifles, etc.... I can put together a nice little scene on the bases I use for my 1/48 scale tanks.

Whatcha' think?

The kit comes with only 1 ammo box. Would the Pak 40 use the same ammo boxes as the Pz IV, per chance?

No the Pak 40 rounds were much longer than the 75mm rounds for the KwK L/48

Thanks, Frenchy. I was just looking at the new Squadron catalog, and they have this set on sale for $16.96. With shipping that's about what I'm paying for the gun, infantry and base. (gun-5.60 + infantry- 6.25 + base- 7.99 = 19.84.

I'll have to think about that.

Nice idea! but placing 1:35th weapons on a 1:48th scene, isn't going to look realistic.

Huh?

This is the type of base I'm going to use;

the scene hasn't been built yet.

I built the Tamiya kit myself about a year ago. Got it for less then $5 at Hobby Lobby. It was my first peice of artillery, and my first diorama with figures. Also my first time painting figures. It may not be accurate, but it was fun. Here are some pics:

Would the boxes just be longer or was there a difference in other dimensions? ie; could I use lengthened Pz IV ammo boxes or cover one end under a tarp or something?

Maybe use some wood match sticks and stirring sticks to fab up a couple. Give 'em a couple washes of grays and browns and your in!
Balsa and Basswood are fun!

Now that I've seen what is in the AFV Club set, I think I'll just get one through my LHS if I can.

Ended up at Hobby Lobby today, looking for Halloween decorations for my wife. Ended up buying the Tamiya 1/35 German Machine Gun Troops and German Assault Infantry In Winter Gear. $14.16US, including tax, for the two. And I found a birch tree willing to give me some seeds.

Looks like some of my 1/48 projects may be put on hold.

I think the base is about 4" square by .25" thick. Just a piece of wood that I stained.

Thanks, I was trying to visualise how the gun would fit on the base I have. The Hobbico bases have about 4 1/4" by 9 1/4" usable space, so the gun should fit okay.

What about the academy accessory sets that have the different ammo boxes? They are pretty cheap and might have the wooden pak 40 ammo box??

Lars, just because People only usually build certain scales or nationality, dosent mean they cant break out of their mould, and some modellers have used differnt scales to add deph perception into dioramas aswell.

Got it started, here's a few pics;
the gun

the base

the gun on the base

the trees and logs

Obviously, nothing is finished yet. The trees are short because they are going in a display case. (see above)

Almost done!!

Yeah, right.
Another WIP shot

The odd camo on the gun is kinda a what if/ could be. What if one gun had a damaged wheel and another gun had a damaged everything else? What if the crew of a panzer grey Pak 40 found a bit of green and tan paint? It seems that somewhere I have seen both. Like the camo on my Tiger. I knew I had seen it before, yesterday I saw a pic (on here) of a Pz III with that camo 'pattern'.

I decided to go with 4 crew insted of 5, not enough room. The big trees need to be set and cut down to fit in the case. And a lot of other stuff......

Almost close to soon being nearly completely finished...........maybe...

Now I need to get started on the figures.
