Hi guys,
Here is my next project and I thought I might do a build log! Its as Tamiya Challenger 2, bought from Model Hobbies, I am planning to do a diorama at the end. It is a brilliant kit, loads of detail and no errors that I can see!
Its the first Tamiya i have built and i think its great that they tell you what each part is (do they always do this?)!
Here we go:
A picture of the box and some of the diorama stuff!
The MIG Jersey barriers are greatly detailed, although everyone is the same design and you get a block of resin on the bottom of each which i will have to use a hacksaw on though to get off!

Hay Lewis good luck with the kit.
There is one small problem with the turret mounted GPMG the carrying handle is shown in the carrying position not the firing position as the handle should be folded down to the right.

If you cut it off and move it over to the right and cement it in place.

I have made some progress on it now, the Dirive sprocket Holders and Idler Holders, and some peices for the armour plating!
Here is a picture of the model before spraying:
In this picture i have shown one of the parts attached on with a screw, anyone seen this before because i find it quite odd:
Now for Masking up the wheel holders, I have always used Humbrol maskol, it is the best in my opinion for its price, but has anyone found another that is better?
More from me later on after i spray it!

Just got the same kit yesterdy for my birthday.. Might be a few weeks before i get started. Very impressed with the kit. Only thing dont really like is the rubber band tracks. Have no experience with them. They have great detail though. Looked for metal tracks but couldnt find any. Will watch your build to get some pointers. Keep us posted.

Hi Marco! Thanks so much! I always wondered how that was re-produced and have been wanting to get that kit but never caught a review on it to find out.

Hi Andy,
The rubber tracks are really good in the kit and are really easy to put on, so dont worry about having no experience, the only thing is make sude you glue them together with something strong or you could staple them!
Hope your kit goes well

Hi may I say It's a nice kit (I have one in my "depot") and even if not already built I was really impressed by his huge size. Images from the gulf on roads near destroyed abandoned iraqi AFV can easily give lot of ideas.
I will keep your progresses with lot of interests

In my time, they called those vinyl tracks. Rubber band tracks were the continuous loop kind with little or no detail and they were used for motorized tank kits and they were actually made out of rubber.

They are vinyl tracks.
About the color:
The British Challengers have a bit more yellowish color then U.S. vehicles. So putting a bit yellow to the color makes them more correct.

Sorry about my choice of rubber instead of vinyl. The tracks will be mostly covered by the side skirts any way. I know on the kit the dust covers at the bottom are plastic. It would look real cool to cut the plastic ones off and make fabric type ones. Any ideas anybody.

Hi guys,
Yesterday someone pointed out i had used the wrong colour, so i have resprayed it:
Also the wheels are coming along nicely, here they are just after spraying
And the Drive Sprockets, Idlers and in the background half of the return rollers
See You later
