Over the years I watched "Please post more photos" change to "please post less photos!"
Did I miss something over the years?
I thought the whole idea of the site was to post and display our models, and discuss their builds, warts ands all, ask questions, answer questions, and encourage each other to improve our chosen hobby areas.
The thing I do find interesting is people posting 10 to 20 photos of a finished piece, yet not taking the time to submit them to the editors for a permanent "On Display" or "Feature".
Even if sent to the wrong editor, he would simply pass it along to the proper editor.

hi guys, model making and photography goes together. as long as you'll show a lot of good stuffs on your thread. i think it's alright to post a lot of pictures. constructive and informative..i get a lot of tips and tricks from finished photos or work in progress thread of other modelers. yes sometimes they're over 10 images and really big.

one time someone told me...'can you post a bigger picture on that..on my screen they look like postcards to me'....and there's another one...'wow...really nice..do you have a work in progress pictures on that...i'm sure interested how you made those details'. sometimes you just don't know what people want and where to start with. it's the fun part of sharing and showing. ed

I have always recommended that in progress and questions be asked in the forums. Always will, even a few finished photos, but for longevity and a lasting place, submitting the load of photos to an editor saves them for future readers to find a lot easier than searching through thousands of threads. Plus as soon as a member deletes his photos from his gallery, (either here of some other site) the dreaded red X shows up in the future. Sending them to an editor saves these photos in a totally separate archive for future readers to view and enjoy. In a thread your finish piece usually disappears in a few days, On Dis[lays and Features do not.
Plus the editors will give you tips and helps to improve your photos for publication. A win win situation for all concerned.

Thanks Dave for putting that forward, I have tried to get the message across, however one PM I sent out is still unread since the 10th Oct. I have also placed a post ref the campaigns, and asked that members taking part submit Build or On Display features to Armorama, and I have listed the staff in the features area for ease of use. If you have seen enough pictures of a given subject, just use the slide bar and skip the rest.

Most of my stuff doesnt fall into catagories suitable for features, its not 1/35th and its wargaming related (also it has mythical chipping on it - not flavour of the month at the moment "Micky mouse paint schemes" to use a quote from a recent thread). Plus I've had the devils own job uploading phottos thru the feature editor, it just doesnt seem to like my PC set-up.

On the general subject of pics tho, it doesnt really matter to me how many are posted, I look thru em if the topic interests me and some are more useful than others - we also all have a different idea of the angle and detail we want to see.

I dont really see the point of re-quoting a large batch of pics unless a specific question is being asked, just edit them out of the quote - it takes a couple of seconds and will help speed things up a bit ..............

cheers

It all depends on your service and your machine. I have no problem using photobucket but I do remember those days of using the landline and AOL.

I say the more the pictures the better the story. Step into the 21st century!

Brent, zip files and emails work just as well when submitting something to an editor. Especially when sending large, unedited and not resized photos.

Well the more the merrier is a poor excuse to keep going in this direction.

Well, hey, you voiced your opinion for less photos, I voiced mine - and that's just it: my opinion. I do have high-speed internet, I do pay for it, and I do like to see plenty of pictures.

I do however agree that pictures resized to 800x600 are better for internet viewing. And if you're using a photo hosting site, consider posting a smaller thumbsized image hotlinked to the full size picture - it's really not that difficult, sites like Picassa even construct the full link in HTML or BB code for one to copy and paste/post.

Furthermore, I agree that it's unnecessary to quote a post pics and all, unless one's making a specific reference to a particular photo within a large batch. I reckon if this happens (the quote w/all pics) the moderators should edit the photos out - just as I'm about to go do now.

Brent,

Personally I think your work is terrific. HF has a wargaming miniatures section, and Modelgeek/kitmaker has a sci-fi section, so although your work may not fit in on Armorama, please feel free to submit TONNES of your stuff on either of those other sites

Keep up the great work mate!

Rudi

(p.s. who ever said your stuff is Mickey Mouse is probably blind )

Brent I have written to you 3 or 4 times asking you to submit some of your work, I even offered to do a feature as a collection rather than on one specific model. I have been asked to cover builds using the smaller scales, I have had some success in that area however 1/35th scale AFV's are built by a lot more members. That out of the way you still have an open invitation to supply some work to us; please include information relevant to the model. The information we are after is what it is, scale, and some information on the build and location.

I can relate to both sides of the coin here. I do like to look at pics of others work, especially good work. However, I don't like to look at 30 pics of a roadwheel from all 360 degrees that isn't in focus, too dark etc. I understand that not all of us are professional photographers (No I'm not either), but please for the love of Pete at least post something I/we can decern what it is we are looking at. "I think that is a muffler...no wait, that's a shovel" As far as the submissions go, I used to have trouble with the automated online upload function, especially the pictures, so I abandoned it for the most part. I use it for adding all the text and technical info such as scale, price, etc. I send all pics seperately as a zip-file in an email to the appropriate editor and I'm all set. I use Photobuckets old uploader for posting my pics to the threads here as I don't like the new one . I have over 50 pages on their site, and nary a problem using it. For $25 a year it is well worth it in my book to have unlimited uploads available. Ok, I'll shut up now... "Q"

here's another look at the (problem) situation. I have tryed for a long time to download pic's and I'm looking at the wall and wondering how much force it will take to throw my computer or myself through the wall. I'm just coming out of the stone age and do try to get these things right but I'm not computer literate yet. I have heard all the ways to download and post here and there but yet no sucsses. I also know that I am probably doing something wrong so maybe someone would be kind enough to write up an artical on how to do this modern marvel. It might be benifical to all of us if we really know what the we are doing and maybe solve the problem as to where to post and how. I know I would be gratful instead of bumping around in the dark and getting peoples feathers ruffled. As far as too many pic's, this is what it's all about, we all have scroll ability.
