Sounds interesting Martyn, however you cant really use those 2 sets of figures together. The anti tank team are Gulf war era and up to the mid 90's, whilst the other set of figures are more OIF early 2003 era. You need to decide on what war you wish this diorama to depict-ODS or OIF, then sort out the figures, id go with ODS as you can get away with using lots of fairly cheap Dragon figures, whereas there arent to many OIF figures except resin on the market.

Actually, you can easily update any of the older, ODS-era Dragon figures to be OIF figures (up until about 2007, before we switched to ACUs) by getting a few sets of the Modern Marines and swapping out the torsos on the older figures with the new, IBA-clad torsos from the Modern Marines set. By doing this, your figure positions are almost limitless. I did just that for the figures in the
"On Patrol" dio I built for a customer.

If you buy trumpeters more recent figures and mix the tursos with dragon legs etc you can make up early OIF figures give you some variety. Depends how accurate you want to be.

The "Modern" US Navy SEALs are ODS era as well, not OIF modern. They too need IBA body armor.

OIF March 20th 2003 to present
Desert Storm August 2nd 1990 to February 28th 1991
A six month war 17 years ago and a 5 year(so far) war still going on.Though the "invasion phase" was complete on April 30th 2003.
That and many, many ,other differences.

Pretty good progress. A couple points. Iraqi T72s didn't use the ERA blocks on them, just slick hulls. I've never seen any Chinese BJ212 Recoiless Rifle trucks in Iraq either. Lots of Russian UAZ 469 jeeps, but no Chinese BJ212s.

Hi Martin,
Very good start on the tank hull - be sure to keep us updated.
By the way, what happended to the Berlin '45 dio pics you were going to post up now that you've finished it? And the Italian train yard? How's that coming along?
Also (purely out of interest): Are you and James related?
Happy New Year!

I'm talking about the truck. That is the Trumpeter Chinese BJ212 w/Recoiless rifle, or the Hobby Craft rebox as a fictitious Iraqi Fedayeen vehicle. It is not a Russian truck. It is a close copy of the Russian UAZ 469 staff car, but the front end, hood, and rear body have been changed by the Chinese.
