Different Jeep, the M38 family didn't appear until the early 1950s while Tamiya's is a WW2-era vehicle.

Thanks, how about the Italeri offer, did it appear in WWII say ETO? Is this the same as Willys? or was it a ford?

Both the Italeri and Tamiya jeeps are WWII and Korean war-era Willis MBs. No one makes a kit of the Ford GPW.

Miniart from Russia is now producing a 1/4 ton truck of the first series,, I believe it's a Bantam.

That is correct. The Bantam 40 was the original design that was approved for production. Bantam couldn't produce enough of them quickly enough, so Ford and Willys were contracted to make them. Ford changed the grill from the Bantam design to make production easier. Willys changed a few other small items and the Willys and Ford designs became the standard that everyone knows. The US didn't use very many Bantams. Most went to the USSR and Britain as Lend-Lease vehicles.

A few of my favorite things:

Bantam

Original Willys

Original Ford

And the little known... Checker Cab Company version.

Hey, I didn't know that about Checker either, thanks. I guess they didn't choose it because it stood out on the battlefield too much with that bright yellow and those checkered bands? :-)

Rob,
I knew about Bantam, but Checker?? I heard about it but didn't know till I saw the photo. Grumpyoldman has enlighted us yet again.

Bantam was the orig. winner of the design, but Willy's Overland got the production nod because the government didn't think Bantam could keep up with production demands. Even Willy's had a hard time with production, that why you had the Ford version.
Ford was better suited for production and didn't have to retool as much.
The total number of Jeeps turned out by Willy's was almost as many as Ford.
I'll have to check on that one.
