hi james ,, looks like you have a good clean build going there ,,, only thing id say ,, why not replace the thick kit cover on the rear hull ,, i used thin alli foil ,, think it was off my mates pop noodle ,, i just flattened it a bit and cut to shape then threaded the tie down and blobs your uncle , job done

hey James, for the guitar, the fretboard is usually a rosewood or ebony colour on acoustic guitars, the little bumps along it( frets) should be a metal/silver/chome,
also, most guitars have fret markers, at frets no 3 5 7 9 12 15 17 and 19, ( i counted he frst on the guitar. maybe also coat it in satin? i mean we areaiming for accuracy , Right?!

ha i jest!! sorry for the long unfunny guitar joke, really coming along in the build, what scheme have you decid on?

The next part of the turret was putting more vision blocks, the few remaining stowage boxes, a few pioneer tools and the mantlet and the 30mm cannon.

I had no problem with fitting any parts it just was time consuming with all of the tiny parts.
Also i have left the hatches off so it is easier to paint and im going to have crew in the hatches anyway

Not much more to do before paint this is a great little build!

There is still some cleaning up do do there is a few sink marks and where I have been a bit eager with the craft knife

Here is a progress report

I still need to build the wheels, idlor's,the sporckets, smoke launchers and the
head lamps.

Im undecided which way to paint it any suggestions would be great
Are the smoke launchers inaccurate?

Making good progress James, the guitar is going to be a nice little touch to set this one apart when the time comes.

The disc on top of the commander's periscope should be a ring. It's a mount for a spotting scope. There also seems to be some sort of mold seam or sink going across the top of the commander's periscope.

Thanks Bill & Gary.

Bill: Thanks alot mate it should do hopefully I will have stowage aswell as the guitar but the guitar should be intereasting to paint

Gary: The sink mark is where i removed it from the sprue itself and ive got rid of the waste on top of it. Can you explain about the commander's periscope even better have you got any photos?

Thanks guys

If you go to the primeportal link that Garykato put in his post there are some good shots of the commanders periscope. The mount is for an OTIS unit, (Obeservation Thermal Imaging System) which was a thermal imager the recce troops used. There should be two thumb screws at the rear to secure it into the mount which are missing on the pictures. There are also some good pictures of the rear turret bin and saddle bins if you wanted to detail the bin catches on your kit. On the non SPIRE equiped vehicles which yours is there is also a shroud over the gunners sight to stop glare. The smoke dischargers from what I can see are reasonably accurate.

That one James. if you have any questions I'd be happy to help as I crewed Scimitars for 13 years. One of the painting options is a UN vehicle from Bosnia which is a wagon from my regiment. i do have pictures but won't be able to send you any until at least a week as I am away from my home at the moment.

They were the one peice early cast ones. They were changed as they were prone to cracking on the webs. they are now two peice and a lot stronger.

Just as a quick suggestion, British armoured vehicles very rarely carry their pioneer tools in the proper places. They are too easily stolen, vehicles in Bosnia never had anything on the outside as it would definately be nicked. Keep that in mind if you are going to do it as an UNPROFOR vehicle ('92 to '95)

I'm gonna watch this one James. The Scimitar has always been one of my Favorites. I built one probably 10 years ago, and this makes me want to get another one.

It is a nice "relaxing" build as I recall. I did mine up in the Green/Black scheme.
