Oh, something else....the inside of the top hatches should also be the same darker green you have on the inside of the rear ramp (same dark green as on the exterior), not the "seafoam green".

Thanks for that Andy, the paint job would have been a bit tighter but I didn't realise how much my airbrush needed a good deep clean until after I had started, by then it was a little to late. I assumed the hatches would have been painted a dark colour but didn't have the references at the time to do it and painting the whole interior the same was just a little easier in the time I had.

I should post a couple more images in the next few days once I have finished the storage, it has taken me nearly two weeks to paint it all

cheers

H i all,
Great job so far Keith ! i've been following this blog with great interest. I am currently working on the Dragon 1/72 AAV7 with EEAK. There have been questions about the AAVs up north having the EEAK . I don't know for sure if this is 100% correct, but in Concord publications "Marines on the Ground", page 38 has a picture of two AAVs, one with and one without the EEAK. The caption says it's at the Olympic Stadium in the capital. I also did a search of the AAvs in Iraq on the web and have seen a few other pics of them up north with the EEAK. You probably already know this.....anyway, I have one question for you. My Dragon model has what I believe is a smoke generator right behind the TC's hatch. Does Hobby Boss give you the option in the kit? Thanks -and again great job !! -Rich

Hi Rich

I think the item you are talking about is the engine exhaust of the RAMS/RS upgraded AAVP7, you can tell if it is has the upgrade as the tracks have a set of return rollers as the tracks are based on the M2a1 Bradley running gear (if not the same as), those with out the RAMS/RS upgrades don't have the return rollers and the exhaust is a small vertical stack (as in this Hobby boss Kit). This AAVP site has some semi decent line drawings of the various versions.

This release of the Hobby Boss kit has the parts for the RAMS/RS exhaust (apart from the P/e screen over it) but its not in the instructions, although Hobby Boss have a RAMS/RS version listed for release at soem point this year.

Cheers

Keith

The tracks are single links, and are designed to be clipped together, but i found the plastic a little to soft so they kept parting as you built the lengths. in the end I built them up glued them around the wheels on the hull then once dry removed the whole wheel/track assembly for painting.

I have used the Real Model stowage set plus some other parts. I now just have to start the figures all 10 of them for the diorama, luckily the base is done ready for paint.

Couldn't make Crewe in the end so will be at Cosford and Hinckly

cheers

Rich, Keith is correct about the RAM/RS exhaust.
Now if your currious, every AAV has a smoke generation unit. It is integral with the exaust and is enternal. There is a manual switch accessable from the troop compartment (small hand size door on the left side of larger access panel that faces the troop compartment inside). This turns the smoke generator on/off. The actual smoke is then generated by a toggle switch in the turret (if I remember right). Smoke comes out the exhaust.
It works by spraying oil onto some manifold within the exaust system...works pretty dang good too.

ok

I have finally managed to finish adding the storage from real model, and have the weathering to do. I also added some straps along the length of the model so the storage actually looks like it is hanging of something.

Now I can start on the figures and finish the base

cheers

Great job on this one Keith. What do the Marines actually call this thing? There has to be a nickname for it no?
