Hi Folks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Another Double Header, this time for the "Die Bundeswehr" Campaign Build
Truly a double header
Only kidding,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I have two of these kits and both are not now sitting on the get round to it pile.
One will be the van
The other the box van
Drawing photocopied to scale helps so much
The first cut is the deepest ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Baby I know ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The first cut is the deepest !!
End of evening's work
Anyone fancy a 6x6 G Wagon Limo?
Off to a good start on the campaign trail.

The van body is still playing second fiddle to the box body for now.
Set to work on the chassis, steering and axles. I am really impressed by the simple, snug and secure fitting that make up the steering components. All very precise and a dream to put together with minimum of glue needed.
I will need to set out supports for the front of the box
Since the cab is quite small I thought I would also open it up and try my hand at adding interior detais like the door frames, 'A' pillars, interior cills and the like.
I only have a couple of interior pics to go by so I still have to hunt around on the web for more to add

Hello Nige,
nice agony you have saddled youself with this project.
Concerning some Wolf pics I recommend to visit
panzer-modell.de
Chosse on the left hand side "Referenzen", then you see "In Detail".
Scroll down and you will find some interesting pics...
Good luck.

Hi Marco
I was given that one earlier but thanks to you I got to it a slightly different route and saw there were more pages on the other types of G Wagons that I can get snap-shots of different bits of the interiors from all the types.
Greatly appreciated

Hi folks
I hope someone can help me as I have it a minor snag.
I have realised that the drawings I have must be a slightly different (possibly older) version of the Kofferaufbau (Box Body) van type and on looking at the reference Marco and Frenchy gave me it gives different overall dimensions for the vehicle than the ones on the drawings.
My main problem is just the dimensions of the box. If I can get that right I can work around the rest. I tried to do some proportions from the pictures I have but the different picture angles and views are throwing me a lot so no two dimensions seem to work out.
Or maybe I am just thick
DOES ANYONE HAVE THE BASIC DIMENSIONS Has anybody got one of these sitting outside their back door?
Hope you can help

It should be possible.
"die Länge beträgt 5,28m, die Breite 2,05m und die Höhe 2,95m"
Length 5.28 meters
Width 2.05 meters (the big issue is if this includes the external rear view
mirrors or not)
Height 2.95 (this will vary a bit depending on load, compressed suspension.
From this photo
http://www.panzer-modell.de/referenz/in_detail/wolf/wolf_san/009g.jpg
you get the length and height of the box expressed in lengths of driver door.
If the drivers door of the Revell kit is perfectly true to scale this will give a true
to scale length of the box. If the door is a "off" and you manage to find the exact
size of the box you will be in trouble because the proportions between door
and box will not match photos.
This photo also gives a fair estimate of the height of the box, something times
the height of the side window.
This photo tells you the distance between frame and box:
http://www.panzer-modell.de/referenz/in_detail/wolf/wolf_san/n02g.jpg
Some rubber spacer or something in between.
This photo gives the width of the box as a proportion to the height
http://www.panzer-modell.de/referenz/in_detail/wolf/wolf_san/u01g.jpg
The rest of the photos provide details.

Hello Nige,
I have watched, looked and checked your pics and I am not sure that you have considered that the Sanitäts-Version of the Wolf has got a more extended wheelbase than your kit provides at all.
There are three (!) sizes of the Wolf. The both Kurz and Lang you know, but what about the Sani ?
Therefore the basic proportion of the kit you are using (Fire Department=Lange Version) provides you a wrong one with the beginning.
Its wheelbase is 285 cm what is correct so far, but you require a chassis extended to 312 cm.
Then you will match the right proportion...
Good luck

I owe you a big or
It is this mere fact that was also throwing me a curve ball
It is easy to add the chassis extension needed now I have the size.
Me a happy bunny again
Not only was I being thick but also had some important information lacking
Thanks Marco

Hey Guys
Panic stations again,,,,,,, I just made the cut and inserted 11mm to extend the wheelbase from 2850mm to 3120mm and Frenchy throws me another curve ball !!!!!
The new drawing shows 3400mm. If I keep going I will end up with my 4x4 Limo !!!!!!
Tee hee !!!!! Can anyone explain before I make another cut and shut ?

Sorry for the curve ball Nige These drawings come from a 1999 commercial brochure (in French) :
http://www.clubmbf.com/Contenus/Technique/Catalogues/G-461-1999-fr.pdf
To me this chassis looks to be the one used for the pictured ambulance variant....According to the same brochure, this chassis is fitted with bigger 235/75R17.5 wheels (instead of 205R16 wheels).

Waiting for some info on chassis length for the box body which hopefully will come tomorrow. Meanwhile had a chance to work on the van body for a change.
Chassis length and body are the same as the kit so only needed cutting of the rear pillars
filling the rear door panel lines with Revell Plasto
The two cabs
Blanking off the windows makes it the van body

Watch out! That picture you are measuring against doesn't show the vehicle
at straight angles. If you measure like that you will end up in trouble.
Measure the length of something in the picture which you have a known size
for (the drivers door which is in the photo and in the Revell kit) and then use
that measurement as a ruler to measure the wheelbase, then you measure
the door in the Revell kit and use that as a ruler for your conversion.
If the wheelbase is 1.789 picture-doors in the picture then it should be 1.789
Revell-door in your conversion. If this results in a wheelbase reasonably
close to 3400 then go for 3400 ;-)
Measuring off a picture requires that the picture was taken at almost straight
angles OR that the two distances you are comparing are close to each other
in the image (side by side and nearly the same distance.

Hi Robin
The lines were my guides when I was doing proportion checks and it so happened that the length on the printed photo corresponded with the inserted 11mm to extend the wheelbase from 2850mm to 3120mm.
I am hoping that Marco is able to use his contacts to confirm the actual measurements before I go any further on the box body.
Everybody has been fantastic with help as I have always found on all the sites I post
Thanks for the encouragement folks

Yee haa
Thanks to Marco on Armorama and a certain Dr Sun of Zeppelin Gmbh I now have the detailed dimensions for the build complete down the damned chassis dimensions !
I say damned cause I was daft enough to go by by first gut instinct and change Its wheelbase from 285 cm to 312 cm and did such a good job on the glue.
Yes that is real blood and the offending weapon trying to prise out the plastic insert in the chassis
So now I really do have real blood on my meat wagon. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, realistic or what ?????
Blood sweat and tears and all I have to show for tonight is the new chassi length.
But at least I know it is now correct length.
Thanks Marco and Dr Sun

Hi Robin
Wheel base is 3428 to be exact,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, tee hee
There were likely previous versions with the 2850 chassis with the box roughly centred over the axle as in this photo
Since I now have 1:20 drawings with box and chassis dimensions on the 3428 chassis that I can easily scale down I will go with these.
The box has far less overhang and will likely be far more stable off road with less bounce and tail swing.
Hopefully no more blood to be shed on the model
Thanks guys

I had a chance to cut some plastic last night and now have the basic box
All held together with blu tac just to check proportions.
I am quite pleased the proportions of the kit and box match
Internal wheelarches formed still to be filled and smoothed off

Yep. I am enjoying this build.
I am surprised that Revell have not made options for their 1/35 Revell Wolf similar to what other companies have done with say the HUMMV range. There is a lot of mileage to be had from this 1/24 kit if you can source them but also with the 1/35 model.
I have one of the 1/35 but will maybe do a oob job on it sometime in the dim and distant future.

Hello Nige,
"I am surprised that Revell have not made options for their 1/35 Revell Wolf "
I think they will do so in the nearest future but not tomorrow because their recent Wolf (kurz) is a rather new kit (May 2008).

Hi there
Got round to cutting the windows tonight
There seems to be capabilty to vary the design of the ambulance slightly including spare wheel location as on here
or located on the roof
And load out inside like this in the newer layout
or like this in the older version
