Hi people!
Here is the project I work now. It myst be an early production (some April-May 1944) T-34-85 built at Nizhny Tagil (#183) plant. As a base I used the Zvezda T-34-76 hull and Zvezda T-34-85 turret. Some small parts are from Tamiya's T-34-85. The trick is -- all that kits were the discarded items from nearest hobbyshop -- Zvezda's kits had the heawy molding defects and someone crashed the full can of paint thinner into the box with Tamiya's kit. I had a bet with the shop's owner for I can do the good model from that debris. This is what happened. I specially didn't used the special addons -- the only aftermarket parts are the gun barrel and PE mesh at the rear engine deck. All other things are the sheet styrene, brass sheets and copper wire.

Hey Lis. tried to see the pictures but it says " you are not the owner of the album". You must need to click on something to make it open to the public. Looking forward to see the results! have you won the bet?

Hi Plasticbattle!
Moved the pics to the new location -- let's try to click it again. Hope it will be ok.

About the bet -- I still didn't finish this beast. Now it's in the weathering stage. Also I have a plan to add the crew -- the mixture of different Dragon, Tamiya and Zvezda figures. But i'm on the right way and hope I'll get it (the bet is an new Tamiya's T-55 if I'll win I receive it free, if not -- I'll pay twice )

Hey Lis, start making room on your shelf for that new 55! Nice clean scratch work all over. Should be great when finished! Good luck with this

Very nice track work they look great I love the road wheels too.
How difficult is it going to be painting the bottom then the top half? I personally would have done top and bottom at the same time. Just a personal preference.

Nice job Lis! I think you will soon have a free T-55 in your hands. (it will not take as much work to make it look good)

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Scott.
I always do the tracked vehicles in such a manneer --for me it's easier to work and weather the tracks. If you put the top and bottom hull parts together it's hard to crawl to the upper portions of the tracklink espesiallu at the modern AFVs like M60, T-55 or T-62. Of course at such a beasts as Panther or Tiger it's enough space to work but I do it in the same manneer -- just because I have a habit to do it this way. When I paint the upper portion of my models I cover the tracks by tissue "glyed" by shaving foam. I like this medium because it's very easy to remove (just a little bit of water) and no risk to damage the paint and weathering at the tracks (as it can be if you'll use that artistic masking tape).

Happy modeling.

Ok - You got my attention - tissue and shaving cream mask - DO SHARE PLEASE.

That's a new one. I kinda get but I think a lot of people (including myself) would like to hear more.
Brand/kind of tissue (face, gift...), brand/kind of shaving cream (generic, barbasol..)
Do the oils, and perfumes affect anything? Do you treat the paint job before apply this?

Ok, let's hear more
This trick is very well khown here in Russia among the "old modeller's generation". I tarted to use it at my planes (as the majority of people here I started from the aircrafts). First time I used the pieces of the old newspapers and water/soap mixture. But once time I received the ugly result -- the words from that newpaper came to my model Then I started to use the toilet paper. It's also good to use but it's necessary to be extremely carefull -- when wet by soap/water or shaving foam/water mixture it's wery unstable and fall apart. So I use the paper napkins (that's the word!) -- just the same as used in fastfoods. They are more tough when wet.
The kind of shaving cream? Hm-m... Just one I have currently at my shelf in the bathroom :-) This time it's Gilette series "regular" shaving foam. But I also used some "Mennen", "Nivea"... That's all were ok -- if it doesn't damage the human's skin, how can it affect the paint? The technique itself is very easy -- just cut the pieces of necessary shape, apply the water/shaving foam mixture, place them to the model ant then let them dry. If you'll need the soft edge of your paintwork -- just lift a little bit the edge of the paper and let it dry in such a position. After drying it will be hard enough to survive the air flow from your airbrush. After the painting I stay the model to dry owernight and at the morning remove the masks (just take it with me to the shower ). It needs very small amounts of water to remowe -- just a little bit wet the paper and it goes out. The best thing is you can leave it at your model as long as you need without any risk to damage the paint.
