Just about finished the same kit.. One item i would recomend is the Lionmarc barrel. Its a lot better than the kit barrel. If you go to features and look under tanks there is a great article on building a Accurate Challenger II tank. A lot of good hints a tips on the complete build.. It helped me a lot. Will watch your progress with interest. It is a great kit.

The Lionmarc number is #LM20000. Its resin and metal. Whole lot better than the kit barrel. If you look at the box art you can see the seems on it. Tried everything i could do to the kit barrel, but still didnt look right. Hope this helps.

Andy i have got one on order for the main reason that it has got the wright amount of sag at the base where the dust sleeve is.
James i will paint the chally firstly in dark green then i'll spray the sand.It will be a few weeks before i get to that stage as i am going to try my hand at the anti-slip finish.
I'll also scratch build some of the stowage and i will try to show a little more about that, but at the moment i can't beleive the amount of fun i'm having just making the wheels.
If there is anything that anyone wants to see or ask then just fire away.........

One info- don´t use the engine deck screens from the Voyager set. Get the screens from Tamiya or Eduard.
The Voyager set has some "slat" in the middle of the screen, but in reality it is underneath it.

AHHH, the wheels. My least fun part of the build. One thing i did was fill the sponson empty spaces with .20 sheet styrene sheet.. Made if feel a lot sturdier. Looking to see your scratch built stowage. From pics i could find they dont carry a lot like the Abrams. Looking forward on seeing more.

hello to you all.
Andy you are absolutely wright they didn't carry a lot of stowage from my reference the challys seemed to all car the long camo net around the front of the hull and also a few bed rolls.

Hi james
i am going to use a material called aluminium oxide (80/120 brown aerospace) blasting media.I will glue this down with humbrol gloss coat.

hi jim
i'll mainly use the osprey modelling book plus i have some other books and magazines that are of use.....

O.k it's evening update time
The picture below shows the application of the humbrol gloss coat.

The next picture is the aluminium oxide sprinkled over the gloss coat

And here are two finished panels

And after the masks have been removed.
After i have let this dry overnight if i think the anti-slip is to course then a light rub over with some scotch brite will take away some of the ruff texture.

The grey patch is where i painted a small area with mr.surfacer 1200 to see what it would look like under a coat of paint and i am quite pleased with the results so far................
neil...

P.S
Sauceman if you are interested i have found a source in the u.k for the 1.00mm masking tape.

Hi again Neil,

Great technique for the anti-slip, it looks fantastic. Does the osprey book have a guide for where to put it? Please give us pics of all the places you end up coating. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your work.

Cheers, Jim.

I have just wired up the front headlights useing lead solder.Tamiya have moulded two small holes in the back of the headlight bracket so all you have to do is super glue the solder into the back of the light
