I have been turnin' and burnin' tonight. I am pushing to get this finished for a contest on Saturday in Winston Salem.

Progress tonight. Got the figures primed yesterday morning before work. This morning sprayed the mid-tone color on the figs. Tonight got the low-lights, and highlights done on the figs, rebuilt the palm tree, and started on the rubble for the ground work.

I found a fantastic source for really rough looking texture for the ground work. The cheapest potting soil I could find. This has a little bit of everything in it including small bits of wood to add the extra textures.

I will post more as the week presses on and I am frantically trying to finish this.

Hi Brian,
Awesome work mate. Looks the business. What colour did you choose for the mid colour on the Marine figures?

Cheers and keep it up!

Hi, me again.
I ahve been nlooking at the colours on the camo for US helmets at this time and these are the best matches I have managed to get, if it helps (all Humbrol).

helmet base H127+H120
Dark leaf H117
Light leaf H85
Brown leaf H72
leaf stems H62

Once all on give the helmets a light spray with Tamiya buff heavily thinned to bring the colurs together. It seems to work for me and produces quite a realistic finish.

Just thought I'd offer as I am asking for your mid colour. I have tried H86 and I am strill not convinced.

Cheers
Sean

Sean thanks for the compliment All of the colors I used are custom mixes using craft acrylic paints. I use applebarrel, and delta ceramcoat brands because they seem to have the the widest range of greens and browns. The the base color for all is Apple barrel Olive. To darken the color I used Delta Ceramcoat Burnt Umber. To lighten I used Apple Barrel Sandstone ( which roughly duplicates buff)
I printed a picture of the camo helmet cover last night and will get those painted up today.
Thanks for looking.

Brian, I'm knocked out by your attention to detail on this and can't wait to see the finished result.

Whatever you do, don't lose interest or motivation because this is shaping up into something special.

Done! I really pushed through tonight and got it together. Thanks for everyone's help, and thoughtful suggestions. Forum input like this really helps me improve.

This is only my second diorama/vignette. I have learned alot from lurking on this site for almost two years...
Thanks for all of your help guys! Your encouragement is greatly appreciated. I still have one more day so if there are anymore helpful suggestions please chime in. If I can get them accomplished I will.

Here are some pics.

Some details were just too ambitious. I did try ammo belts but I could not keep them togther when I tried to form them around the gunner's body. So instead I laid them up on the wall.

Elephant grass, and bamboo...after researching the battle of hue I saw very little elephant grass and no bamboo so I opted to go for a grittier urban setting.

The brass casings are 26 ga. brass wire, I cut about 200 to simulate that these guys have been in the fight for a while.

The M72 LAAW is entirely scratchbuilt.

Overall I think that this project turned out pretty good.

More to come later....

What next?

excellent job. I always loved :shoot-em-up dios.

Oh, and i know what you are talking about when it comes to homework. Ive got an essay to wite on WWII, along with a 5-7 page essay to write on Thomas Jefferson. Along with reading "Macbeth," outlining two science chapters, and God only knows what. Did i mention i have an Eagle Scout ceremony to go to as well??

I did paint the edging around the base a black just to give it a finished look.
