Thanks Phil and Nick!

Really glad you guys like my big cats. Can't wait to see them finished as I just found about the rerelease of the Dragon 1/35 Tiger I initial.
I really like what you have done to the Academy kit, Nick. That's a nice mid Tiger.Hope you'll paint it as nice.

Cheers and happy modeling!

I have to make the welding lines and the smaller cable supports and I'll start painting it.
All the s-minen and headlights cables are in place and the PE for holding the tools are from Dragon.
I scratched the fenders fastening system on the sides, the front bar for the spare track links, and the lower teeth on the turret to hold the extra track links.

Thanks John!Sorry for the long wait.
Yeah...I'm a tiger maniac. It's my first 1/48 tank, my first 1/35 and I'll sure build many more of them in my life.Hope I get to live that long as I plan.

Update:
I decided to replace the exhaust protections and the Dragon had nothing to give me(in PE) I made a pair.
1.Nestea offered 1 metal can along the regular 1.5l.
2.Placed in fire and held with two metal clamps. This makes the metal "memory" disappear.
3.Searched PE for tiger on internet and reduced the image to match the plastic ones.
4. & 5. Copied the resulting image on paper.
6.Copied the resulting drawing on metal. and cut accordingly.
7.Bent.

Now it's time for some damage...

Tracks towing cable support. I had to scratch most of it.

Bent, and worn exhaust protectors.

Some weldings:

I decided to make Tiger 312 from pz.abt.502. A whitewash tiger over dunkelgelb.. There was a lot of reference pictures with this vehicle.

I tried a little color modulation.

I used Tamiya buff and Vallejo model air sand for the base color. After this, I applied heavily thinned enamel filters(dark yellow and military brown) to further build the modulation effect.

This is looking awesome Paul! ...Hi by the way, the laid color down on this Tiger, I like! The paint job so far has really brought out all that added detail. Cannot wait to see how the other one is going on.

Thanks for sharing this Paul. Phil.

Thanks Phil!
I saw a whitewash mid tiger built by Adam Wilder. That was the tiger that inspired me to make it. I hope I'll get it half as nice.

David,
That would be of great help. Thanks! The mail is in my profile.

is spare track on the turret on early type Tiger I allowed? i think on academy kit they didn't mold the part for the spare track holder. but if you have the reference of the early type that has spare track on the turret may i see it? so i don't have any doubt anymore to put it on my Academy early type interior kit. because i like the spare track part on the tiger but i still don't have the reference pic for the early type that has spare track on the turret
thx before

on page 80 in the book tanks in detail by Terry J. Gander there's an Early Tiger 1 with the spare track attachment's on the turret i think the picture is from the Tank Museum originally, what's curious about the picture is the Tiger has a snow plow attached, and both bosch headlights are missing.

The Academy kit represents a Tiger built in February or March 1943. The spare track holders were introduced in April.

Missed this one.

Nice job so far on both of them.

I know will be a good build as you did a fantastic job on that M1A1 Aim.

Will be watching now.

Plus I didn't know Karla made metal tracks.

How do they compare to Friul?

I see the hole goes all the way thru and not on the Friuls.

do u have the sources? just to be sure...if that so, than i must look references of the tiger I that come out in april, are those Tiger I only have 1 differences (the spare track holder) ? or is there something else that i must tweak on my academy tank? sorry for the question, i don't want to get so serious about tweaking my Tiger I but sometimes it's fun to know the accuracy

The source is the book "DW to Tiger 1" by Doyle and Jentz.

To postdate the kit, fill the two small holes above the driver's visor; alter the engine hatch and the panel behind it by moving the hook and adding a new panel ; use the single-casing air filters provided in the kit; add the first kind of loader's periscope .

Thanks everyone!
Oki, here's a link with lots of early tigers that have spare tracks on turret.

Jeff, the karaya tracks are very good, the only downfall being the ejector pin that has to be removed.

Not the best pictures in the world, but you guys get the picture. I used 2 types of background but I still didn't get the real color of the model. Will try further...

I used the hairspray technique two times, and this is the result:

wow...thx for the link
btw nice weathering there with hairspray technique...looks very natural, a little bit bright but i think the color will be more blend after wash and everything...looks very good to me

one question that i had in mind as a newbie, why people use hairspray instead of lacquer clear gloss to seal the base coat? is there some material on the hairspray that lacquer doesn't have? because the job is to seal the base coat right?
before go to the next coat which is the white on...sorry newbie here so maybe i miss 1 or 2 link about something that explains this lol

There were lots of early tigers with spare tracks on the turret, you just need to find out if your tiger had them.

I don't use HS to seal the base coat, for that I use clear varnish. The hairspray is used to make chips especialy in winter camo.
Here's a link o how it works:

what's the difference if we use clear varnish instead HS? is it because we can use warm water to chips the second layer if we using HS and if use clear varnish we can't do that?

Hello Paul

Nice work there. That early Tiger 1 catches the eye to be sure, especially with its DML upgrades - I especially like the scratched fender attachment points.

Shame that Dragon, Tamiya & Academy only do tracks with solid guide horns (other than the late-style 3-part spares in the later 6253, 6406 etc Dragon kits).

I have two sets of Karaya to do & was thinking of filling the sink marks, then sanding them flat rather than sanding them straight down; what do you think? I reckon because of the intensity of preparation for Karaya Friul beat them hands down (shh, I know Phil hates Friuls, but I can't deny them any more). He he.

BTW; what camouflage scheme have you got in mind for the late Tiger 1?
