Bill, you are correct on the M4. The turrets come with clips to hold it in place. We modified some of our turrets by taking the Velcro straps off of some old hatches (we removed the hatches from all of our vehicles) and installing them inside the turret armor using existing bolts. The clips did not always hold well over extreme terrain. On at least one of our turrets the M4 was stowed in the rear rather than the side. We also carried a LAW on either the right or left side. I believe you may have a photo or two of this which you can post, as I currently cannot.

I believe the weapon stowed on the right hand side is whatever the up-gunner uses for his/her personal protection.
In most pictures i see the M4 with associated rails, optical sites, lights etc.

Bill

A good way to start up again is to buy Robert Skippers CD of HMMWV's. Next you can go to my face book page and take the ones I have and I'm sure others will share their stash with you too. I do know of a stash that is very good but I must ask permission of the owner to give out the URL.
Other than that Flickr, Corbis, Getty all have stuff you can borrow.
Sad thing to have a PC crash and take everything with it, back up back up back up.
Good luck.

Hi Henk
Is this the album you're talking about ?

Bill is right about photo hosting websites like Webshots, Flickr or Smugmug being great sources for pics. Most of these pics have been gathered from these sites. You can also check out Defenseimagery.mil or Dividshub.net for Hi-Res pics.

After a while a new update

I've put some storage in the back, reworked the turret base and put the rear view mirrors on turret.

How did you attach the rear view mirrors? It looks like you used solder for a lot of the turret construction and I see you removed the paint in order to get a good adhesion for the mirror frames to the turret walls, are they attached with cyano type glue?
If you had to do this all over again would you use solder to construct the turret? What advise would give someone just starting this project if you were to do some things differently?
What did you use to get that nice even coating of green on the turret ballistic glass windows?
Lots of questions I know but I have my M1151 sitting on my work bench calling out to me. You've helped a lot of people that are going to be building their own model and for that thankyou.

Bill,
Sure ! what a bunch of questions. I try toanswer at all if necessary ask me again.

For the turret, today I will make this :

-rework the base ring to get it more correct (thinner and a small ring between turet & roof) Chris have nice pics for this
-then contruct the wall as I've made. I use soldering for all the windows parts and rear and side wall, glue them on the turret ring. The window are not totaly bend the little outer parts not bend so you can add the glass at the end; But for this you must make a good (resistant) soldering job.
-put the detail in the turret
-first painting coat.
- the mirrors a built separatly a U with a bar and a base made with PE. all are solder (I dont know if I good speak/write). I make a little build diary for this. Then I glue them with Cyanocrylate not liquid but gel in french (paste?)
-Now the window. I use the part that are coming with the kit. I paint the total piece with Tamiya transparent colour green with thinner (make some test before), cut the windows to the right size put tem in the hole and bend the little piece of metal, no glue.

More easy to write than to make
For PE assembly, I use most part of time (always) soldering it's the better and more resistant methode.

But that need some experience.
All the pics from the constructions stages are here :

Well done, I understand perfectly. The ring you mention between the bottom of the turret and the roof of the HMMWV, is it still made of stiff bristles like that in a synthetic broom? I see the ring you have installed and it is a better transition from the turret to the hull than nothing.
I will check out the stages when I can, thanks for sharing your techniques.

Bill
You can clearly see the fabric sweep material under the turret on this M1151.

Yes its a sort of broom used as dust protection. Difficult to represent in 1/35 scale.

Wow, that 1151 is starting to really come together! Last tour in Baghdad our 2nd Squad had the only 1151 in the company (all the rest were 1114s), your model reminds me very much of that vehicle.

Pascal, looks great. a few things. we never put the fuel cans inside the trunk due to IED's igniting them and the fuel would spread through the interior. if you did carry them it was alwasys on the out side. noticed also in the earlier photos that the RHINO was a little high. usually the are level to the ground or dipping a little. And not sure where you are making this for Iraq or Afghanistan. they do nto use them in Afghanistan. they do not use IR detonated IED's there. YET! and the storage compartments on the bumbpers were always bent and damaged after a while. it is all Aluminum. and a memo from DA came out that all those bumper were NOT to be used anylonger becasue they get ripped off and damage the vehicle. but it was up to the commander. you can only push with them. not pull. they rip off when you pull heavy loads wiith them and also are you putting a DUKE system on it? if so the DUKE box goes in the back where the fuel cans are towards the front near the wall. If you need PIC's i will try to load some and put them up. still new here and do not know how to do it yet. and do not forget about the weight of the vehicle. usually the wheels are towed out due to the weight of the vehicle. as for carring a LAW or a AT-4 in the turret we found that when they get hit with IED's and the TTP's of the AAF are to use excelerents they would blow up and further injur soldiers. so we and almost all stopped carring them. but they did used to so it does not matter. just adding the NEW thing that is in. everythngs looks great though. the mounts in the turret for the M-4 are basic mounts and are pretty much all the same. you could fit an M-4 or a M-203 in it. and in Afghanistan they have Eagle mounts on the upper right side of the turret for high elevation targets. but like i said it depends on where you are modeling this from? great work.
