Well I haven’t posted anything on here for a wile, I’ve been busy with college and women of late’ . I’ve been working on AFV Club’s Centurion Mk. 5/1 RAAC in Vietnam. It’s pretty much out of the box besides the Lionmarc replacement turret and the Eduard set for it. It’s pretty much ready for primer besides the driver’s hatches and the rear idler that needs repairing. Also I am slowly adding more PE items from the Eduard set so I can stall painting this again . Comments are welcome as I’m trying to make this as accurate as possible.

I would suggest as reference you use "Military Briefs 3 - Australian Centurions in Vietnam", by Shane Lovell. You will need to decide what date you are modelling the Cent at, as the field modififations were done over the deployment and not all at once. If you fit the bazooka plates this will be OK for initial deployment in 1968 and leave them off for after early/mid summer, and then the field mods started. Good luck, especially as you are so well advanced!

Mark I have the book in front of me. I am not sure what date I am modelling im going to study it now as there are a fair few differences. Im thinking of a late one right now but im not sure. Thankyou for the comment.

I can't comment on the accuracy or otherwise of it Jaymes, but it looks to me like a very nice clean build so far. Well done.

Jaymes,
really nice build so far. How would you compare the AFV turret with the Lion Marc resin one ?
I see the Eduard PE parts are nice looking especially the turret basket mesh.

Keep on posting

Olivier thanks for the comment and kind words It was your Danish Cent that inspired me to get this finished and post some pictures! I think the Lion Marc turret is a great improvement on the kits turret as its one piece, the mantlet is already attatched, also the cast affect is really well done. I will use a Lion Marc turret on my Shot Kal when I get around to bulding it. I still have a fair fe PE parts to add to the kit and finish up the search light and drivers hatch. I will keep posting when I get chance .

G'day Jaymes, Looking so so far. If you wanted to do a late war version, I'm sure you know Mouse House has all of the bit you will need. So I will post them up here for those who haven't heard of us. Firestorm also has another type of idler wheel.

Managed to do a little bit more to the Centurion last night with the driver’s hatches
There some what fiddly to get right, also I have turned the periscopes because I believe they can rotate and would of done so when the hatches were open so that the driver hatches could open fully? Well that’s what I had to do get the kit ones to open properly . Also I started adding the reinforcement plates on the outer stowage bins
using the bits from the Eduard set. I still need to look at the fenders properly and make some modifications to them too. More soon.

A close up of the rienforcement on the stowage bin as you can see its going to be a pain

Please note that the horrible rubber tracks are going! I have some replacement tracks for that when I get around to building them

More soon.

Matan there the Vinyl ones included with the kit. I just use lots of super glue to stick them to the road wheels

Impressvie Jaymes, I'd noticed some, very little mind you, flashing left on the right rear fender and the tailpipes. Nothing major, just minor clean up.

Other then that, Looking sharp.

Painting has commenced . Well only with primer. I cleaned the flash on the rear of the right fender and the exhaust. Not much else to report. I am going to start pre-shading next weekend as I need some more thinner. If anything is sticking out or wrong please comment now or forever hold your peace (before I paint it that is )

I've just noticed some sink marks that need filling and also the search light needs to be added

Comments welcome

Hi Jaymes,

Nice pictures of a great build! I used to get real excited when I primed a model myself; it really changed the look of the model showing all details.
Your Cent looks really nice! Do you have plans for a dio?

Best regards
Mark

Hi Mark. Thankyou for stopping by!. Thanks for the comment. I'm glad to see im not the only one who gets excited seeing a model in primer LOL . Yes I have some plans for a diorama, Im either going to have it patrolling through a village with some VC looking on and waving, or its doing through a rice pad. OR It parked up having some maintanence and the crew taking a break and having some food. Not sure yet some suggestions would be great if you've got any

PM sent mate.

Jaymes.

Hi Johnny The star picket's were made from the eduard set that were simply bent over some plastic rod. The rock I used was abit thick so it looks out of scale though damaged . Thanks for the comment mate.

Brian. Thank you for your generous comment. Yes I have seen Mick Toals Centurion's both are rather great builds! One of them is a photo feature on the site. It was his centruions that made me want to build the one. If you have any photo's that would be superb! Thanks again.

Jaymes.
