The end result is very convincing and well done.
The under carriage shot was a bit to deliniated, the colors were to separate/not blended. From what I can see of the front suspension it looks like it is blended and the 'in progress' photo is just 'rough'. The under shot is a bit to 'centered' on parts, not enough 'flow' over the entire bottom. - again - from what I can see the end result does rectify this. So, it may just be 'the way it is' for those in-progress shots.

Nice results - did you just mix your own pastels into a 'wash' and AB them on?

Dave,

I love the dust effect on the topside. I assume you hit the undercarriage with this same dust, which would have toned down and blended what is in the picture. The dust effect is dead on what I was seeing in Bosnia recently. You might atttempt to splash a bit of "mud" just behind the wheels, as the roads in Bosnia are notorious for potholes filled with soupy mud, even today! Otherwise, nice work.

What model is that? Is it the new Tamiya kit? Did you make any modifications to it, or is it OOB? I am looking for another OOB project, and this one looks nice.

Dave - at this point I like it too. The undercarrige not so much as the lower sides and wheels of the HMMWV. I think that is pretty nice right now - and a nice canvass for going further if you decide. For my eye - it is convincing at this stage.

Guys, thanks for the comments - so far. It is 'not' done yet and only a work in progress.

Scott, the underside is delineated a bit stongly, but is greatly enhanced after the airbrush powder. I will have a couple of the end effect later.

Chuck, thanks for the comment about recent Bosnia memories. This is what I was going for int he general theme. Yes, I was talking to another friend of mine and the idea of a splatter effect is going to occur later today. Right now (10AM PST) the hard-top has been affixed and is drying.

Oh yeah, it is the new Tamiya kit, built OOB in one day. This is an experiment on technique as described by another guy.

Dave,
Nice work so far, I for one would be very interested in hearing more about this technique of spraying the pastels, ie. how thinned, what kind of airbrush (tip/needle size) etc.?

Mike, Once I get the new airbrush and do the work, I will let all here know. May be writing up an article on this technique as the first shot (the airbrush was a Passche) was a nice creation. Just needed to do it a bit later in the building process.

While finishing placing the wheels and lens in, I took off a lot of dust on the wheels and top.
