Paul,
My kit is on hold until next week, as we have the club's annual model show this Saturday and I've had no "concentration" time these past two weeks between calls, emails, and other pre-show preparations. Roll on Monday!
Next week I think I'll also open another front by starting a Tasca Shermie...

Paul-
Wow, man! Those figures are top-notch. Is there a certain method you follow? As I'm still learning to paint figures, I'd really like to learn to paint them as well as you do.

Paul ..great job on those figurines ...
Leo ...I can't help you with Paperdoll and Jumbo pictures are kinda rare but here is what I've picked up on the net over the years...They really seem to be very subdued when it comes to markings in most cases ...

You should also go to Toadman's site there are quite a few pictures of Jumbos being or that have been restored...
http://www.toadmanstankpictures.com/allied.htm There is also the Concord book U.S.Tank Battles in Germany that has a few good pictures of jumbos but again very little in the way of markings (one has USA on the side but nothing else ) and there are two color plates with some interesting markings but I have seen any pictures to confirm these ...

Paul, AMAZING work on those figures! At first I thought they were the box-top photos as painted by a "pro". Incredible work

Interesting to compare this campaign to the Pz.IV campaign - who says modellers are only interested in Axis subjects?

I started construction and have finished turret and added casting marks using glue to soften the plastic and added texture with a cocktail stick. I liked dani's (madmax5510) idea with the thinners for the texture will give that a try next time, its the first time I have done this and am quite pleased with the results.

Alright, I finally decided on a primer and have made a bit of progress. I used Tamiya Fine Surface Primer followed by a base coat of Lifecolor. I didn't do enough sanding on the wading stacks as you can see in the photos below. I just finished a light overall wash that I'll clean up a bit before it dries.
I had a major decal FAIL as you can see in this shot. The 2 was straight until I bumped it with a brush while prepping for the next decal. The more I tried to straighten it, the more crooked it became, so I just gave up and left it crooked.
I plan to go back in with some pin washes once this overall wash is dry.

I am loving "Cannonball"!
Here's "Demagog" after glosscoating and decals.

I used a combination of kit decals, Bison decals, aftermarket, and dry transfers. It's amazing how in the photos the name demagog looks crooked! At normal distance it's fine. LOL!
I'm leaving town on business for two weeks, so this will sit for a while. Then it's washes and flat coat followed by weathering.
Enjoy!

@Michael - Really like those wading trunks. That's what they are called, right?

Thanks, Justin! I really wanted to solder them, but that's a skill I haven't started working on yet, so I decided to stick with Gator Glue & CA. I've seen the called wading trunks and wading stacks; although, I'm not sure if one term is more correct than the other.

Stacks, trunks, wading gear, it's all good!
Michael that is money there bro.
Hey do your references show any type of bracing or rope on the trunks?
I have one pic of a Marine M4 coming ashore and it appears the 55gal trunks have rope around them. I'm wondering.............

G, I have a few photos of Cannon Ball that don't appear to show any bracing or ropes on the trunks. At least it's not visible in the photos. I'm also using a photo of a Sherman coming ashore that definitely doesn't appear to have any bracing on the trunks. That being said, I have seen some photos with rope/wire anchoring the wading gear.

I'm in both campaigns because, after all, the Pz IV was the "German Sherman"...
I took a day off the site to work our club's annual model show, and while my back was turned loads of great updates got posted - nice work guys! Now I'll have to knuckle down on my own build...

...oh, and I too have noticed that the wading trunks don't always have bracing. (I plan to eventually build H-2 "Hurricane" as photographed being loaded up for D-Day.) I think it might be to do with the idea of jettisoning the trunks after landing. If they wanted to do so the trunks had to be very loose-mounted, and the braces kept them upright until the TC pulled the handle to release the cable braces so the whole lot could fall off. But if they didn't care about the convenience they could just fix the trunks on more solid with a few spot-welds and do without the wires - it just meant they couldn't traverse to the rear until an engineer "un-welded" the trunks after landing. Anyone know anything more official on this subject?
