Hey again everyone
Hey everyone!
So like my last post, I'll reiterate. I'm home for spring break and unlike most college kids, I'm a senior, applying to grad school, and I've gotten all of my partying out of the way with a steady girlfriend so I decided to come home and relax rather than go nuts in some tropical destination. So FINALLY I can get some building in. Also, I figured I can get some practice in before I work on my ASLAV as I wait for the parts to arrive, hopefully tomorrow or tuesday.
After seeing Alexander's T-55 made me what to do something other than the typical T-62 so my diorama will consist of some African nation, but depends on the images I find. The tank will be almost straight out the box with the addition of MiG pluming to make it easier as well as some other scratch built accessories if need be.
Sorry for the bad camera shots...I left my digi at school and am forced to use my blackberry
Here are the progress shots so far
Thanks for looking!

I've decided I will be trying to replicate an Ethopian T-62 from their civil war in the 90s. The first picture has a T-62 in the foreground while the second picture is a T-55 I believe.

I saw yours and thought there would be other nations that used the T-62 in a monochromatic color scheme but the only african nation I found this far was Ethiopia. This tank is just clearing out the stash and practicing new techniques.

Would you have any more photos of angolian t-62s? If thats the case, were Cuban T-62's ever used in their conflict with angola? If so I can easily get decals for Cuban vehicles and work from there.

Build what you like! I have been building third world armor and figures for over 30 years!
I have over 100 images from taken from the same series of images that you posted, notice the KPV 14.5 anti aircraft gun mounted in place of the 12.7 mm DShK ?
I also have a few images of Ethiopian troops playing an accordion on the rear deck of the vehicle.
Keep up the good work
When will I see the wheels on a M-1117 or M-1200?
Have a better day!

Hopefully I'll be finishing the M1117 soon. I don't think I can afford an M1200 from arnold so that idea has blown away with the wind.
I'm actually working on the M1117 as we speak.

I can't find any raports of Cubans using any tanks in Angola.
The Cubans however started receiving T-62s from 1976 onward whereas the first intervention happened in November of 1975. So that seems right out.
During the second intervention (1985-86) the Cubans did not send more ground troops. However, the Soviets supplied FAPLA with T-55s and T-62s.
All of my info comes from Wikipedia. Shaky ground, I know, but it's a starting point. It's very complicated subject matter indeed.

A small update
Just finished up the hull for the moment and then on to the turret. I have to sand down the putty in massive sinkholes under the fenders but then after that the turret should be smooth sailing and get this thing under primer tonight. I wasnt able to work yesterday so here is my work from today and I'll be back to work in an hour or so.
Thanks for looking

Sean, looks good...got to love that cast turret..
I'm about to shoot paint on my 62 and thought that I'd pass on a couple points on the turret. There are alot of machine markings on the turret that should be added. Don't putty up the slot on the back of the turret....it's an exhaust fan....If you up for a challenge, you can re-orient the loaders hatch to center it up... The light on the top of the turret between the commanders and loaders hatch needs to be facing to the rear. All of them are pretty quick to do and have immediate impact on how it looks.
Almost forgot....don't attach the turret grab handles until you about to paint....as I've had to repair two of them.

Thanks! I think I will jsut have the light facing the rear. I wanted this to be just about out of the box besides the plummbing, and I dont even think I will include that. Just wanted to do one with no improvements and try and show what I'm made of. I have another t-62 however, and I will definitely take those comments into consideration.

Hey guys. Since this morning I did a little bit of work. I worked on the turret and had to set it aside to let some of the fragile parts develop a solid bond. This way when I add some more texture to the turret I won't loose things to the carpet monster as well as give the whole turret a uniform appearance. Anywho, enjoy!
Hopefully things will be complete tonight or tomorrow afternoon!
Enjoy!

That's a T72, not a T62.

Who do you think operated the T55s and T62s? The Cubans.

Some more small updates. I added more texture to the turret by using a combination of Mr Surfacer 500 and 1000. This was my first time doing something like this and I'm kind of pleased with the results so we shall see what happens in the next day or so. I attached the fenders and most of the turret parts so all that remains are the tracks, running gear, and other minute details and this bad boy will be done. Like I said, I wanted it to be almost entirely out of the box and nothing else. Anywho, here are the photos, enjoy!

Hey Chris!
How are things? Would you happen to have more photos showing the 14.5 mm on the T-62? I'd love to do something different when Trumpeter's Model 1972 comes out

Hi!
The slit is just new to me.
What is the purpose of it? ventilating?
I expect there is no engine unit or something like that in that area.
Cheers!

It's for the turret ventilator. The T-54 had the dome on top of the turret, the T-55 had a slit in the turret side, and the T-62 has it at the rear.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've updated things but the semester is over and I am one year closer to that dream of getting a Ph.D. I got home yesterday and today after relaxing with the puppy I started on this again and realized I didnt have much work left on it at all as far as building goes and will not let this be another build that will disappear on the bench.
Here is where I'm at so far. I corrected my mistake which was pointed out by Tony and began finishing most of the work. I still have some small things to get to but for now I feel pretty good about how this is progressing, especially since this is an out of the box build. Next will be work on my M1117 which I hope to pull off something special.
Anywho, here are some progress photos.
As always, thanks for looking!
