Ditto the Zvesda T60, one of the only kits I've thrown out without even a token atempt to build it. As far as aircraft, same goes for the SMER S/M 79 Italian bomber.

I did not really have that option as I was building it for IPMS review having gotten it free..Stilll not worth the price~!

For me it was the Verlinden Canadian Tow Under Armour. It bore only a passing resemblance to the real thing and only from a distance of about six metres. The photoetch hull roof was about 10% of the required thickess and had all of the hatches in the wrong place. The stowage boxes and loaders hatch were all wrong and the missle launchers were about 20 scale cm too short. I will admit to using the wire cutters. At about $45 for the kit, they were the most expensive wire cutters I have bought. the rest went into the bin.

Italeri Kangaroo - considering how good their Shermans are I was totally dismayed by this kit - fit problems, accuracy, everything.

Not exacly a tank but an AFV. My worst was the SCUD (my first AFV project). It has ill fitting parts. A lot to do. Also, it is just 50% done and I can't do it now cause the darn schooling.

Have to agree with Shonen-red here. Definately the most challenging kit Ive built to date. But it also ranks among my favourites now of finished kits. With lots of TLC, this can be made into a nice model.
I guess us guys that have only started recently, have been spoiled by the advances in technology that have either brought about better kits, or communicated the duffers among them. It pays to read around!

Worst kit?

How about kits that about drove me nuts? Of course, this was probably due to me being a klutz!

1. The Italeri T-26 kit. The bogies were a bear to assemble, then decided to try the tight kit tracks instead of waiting for indy tracks to arrive. Snap, crack, crumble. Sprocket went accross the room, all four bogie assemlys crumpled and hit the deck in bits. Poured all the parts in a bag and back in the box.

2. The Italeri BT-5 and the Maquette BT-2. I lump these two together as the Maquette BT-2 uses the Italeri BT-5 hull. Poor fit, poor design, soft detail, flash and warped parts. Add all that to the Maquette BT-2 and then throw in 2 small sprues in puke green plastic that includes a really basic BT-2 turret, totally useless cannon and mg's, and a new set of road wheels. The road wheels must be mounted in specific sequence, which they don't bother to tell you! In fact, if you don't have a copy of the Italeri BT-5 instructions, you're up the creek.. :-) #:-)

Other people have turned these kits into little gems, but they sure gave me fits1

Worst kit? That may have been Revell's 1/32 Phantom - of course, that may have had more to do with me building it in high school, and not knowing what I was doing in the first place... It's gotten better with the switch to armour, and gaining experience...

Cheers

I agree with Taz - the Academy Panzer IV H - what a piece of crap. Some of the older Tamiya stuff isn't that good, but the Academy Panzer IV is awful. Fit is poor X10, model is inaccurate, and the tracks really stink.

My good Friends--the worst kit ever made by man is the Jaguar Sheridan. It cost me a bundle and is not worth ten cents. The instructions are totally useless, the track is impossible, the parts are either not numbered or done incorrectly and the hull is a disaster of needless complexity. It sits in a box in the model area where I daily go by it and say "do I really want to continue trying to build this one?" The Gunnie also has it and I am awaiting his announcement that he finished it. Haven't heard anything yet.

Didn't know you were waiting!

Ditto - the Jaguar Sheridan is the worse because of all the tempting detail and dreaming you have when you open the box melts away in the dismal way it goes together. The tracks and road wheels shouldn't be mentioned in the presence of young children.

DJ - I did finish my Sheridan though! I encountered a couple of Sheridan vets who helped me out with stories about their mounts in Vietnam. One in particular was so kind as to send me personal photos of his - I sent him a motorized Tamiya Sheridan in appreciation. He was pretty jazzed to get the Tamiya version. Perhaps he got the better end of the deal! Glad I've got another...

I haven't posted pictures here or on my own site because I want to go back and rework some details I saw in his photos to make my Sheridan a bit more "homey"...

Gunnie

Gunnie--very anxious to see photos of your work even if you are still finalizing. Need some motivation to complete the darn thing.
thanks
DJ

EDIT: DJ - I removed your comments from the Quote Block and inserted them into the response area - I hate it when that happens ~ Gunnie

I think worst kit should be the russian armored jeep, the GAZ-64 or -67, made by some god-awefull company that I think has expired, thankfully. Lets just say I was surprised it had all 4 wheels....

Definitely the AER GAZ-67B. Worst by far is the Zvezda T-60 followed by the Trumpeter M60A1/A3.

If you mean the inaccuracy of the model itself and the lowest price/quality ratio that's for sure the B1 Centauro from Corazzati...

The DML Kettenkrad (what ever!) Lousy fit, teeny tiny track and missing things like the MUFFLER! TOO *&%$ many errors to mention. GAWD AWFUL! In 20+ years of modeling its the ONLY kit I have never finished.

The ICM 100mm Russian gun is a close second. Butter soft plastic, POOR fit and more. Yet I was able to finish this bowser.

OK, the "first from the end" can be old Zvezda's T-60. But did anyone mess with the Alan's CU-76? It looks good at the sprues but the best decicion is to conserve it in the collection of inbuilt kits At the first -- the wheels are too close to the hull's sides so if you'll want to plase that nice-looking separate tracks to the place it's necessary to cut out some 2-3mm from the inner side of each link at the upper portion of the tracks... Ok, if you'll plan to place it to the diorama -- that's ok, nobody will look under the fenders. But what about the gun compartment walls!? They aren't thick -- they are too thick! 1,4mm in plastik -- 49mm in scale!! 4mm thicker than Panther's side armor! So the only decision to create the normal model (not the kinderspiel ) -- is to do all the upper hull from scratch...

the oly good thing about that model -- it can be a good donor of roadparts for T-70/70M. All that wheels, tracks etc are much more correct than the items from Techmod's kit. And if the wheels are at the correct distance from the hull -- it's no problem with the track's fit

Best regards and happy modelling!

Hey Rob, you are correct! AER...ugh. I mean, the kit's proportions are ok, if you NEVER look at the real deal. NO exhaust, no interior of any kind for the open topped turret, VERY basic details for the doors and hatches...NO HEADLIGHTS. As I said, it did come with all 4 wheels....

and yes, the Trumpeter M60A1/A3 was pretty awefull.

And I forgot abnout the ALAN/DML SU-76...holy crap, what a pile of dung. I actually threw the kit away when I moved, and good riddance. I have never been so dissappointed by a kit...well, maybe by the AEF Designs 2S3 kit from years ago...that is another story though...

I haven't got the experience with kits most of you folks have but so far the kit I'm most dissapointed in is the Tamiya Sdkfz 251/C Hannomag. I don't know what it is about this type of vehicle, maybe the weird rear door arangement, but I remember as a kid the only Hannomag kits were lousy also. I'm building the Tamiya kit now for Barbarosa and I'm less than pleased. The instructions don't seem to be up to Tamiya's normal standards, a lot of small parts are really hard to fit. The rear doors are a joke. I know rubber band tracks aren't all that good anyway but I haven't been able to even get these things to connect yet. The road wheels are supposed to be held in place by a lower deck thing but they fall out every time. I'm just going to glue them in place anyway but I shouldn't have to.

On the whole I'd rather be in Philidelphia.

Halfyank,

what I know of it from reading around, the Sd.Kfz 251/1 Ausf C you are building is indeed a bad kit. Mind you I have never built it.

The newer Tamiya versions, the 251 Ausf D are pretty good. I am building the 251/1 and so far have hardly encountered any fit problems... They do have their flaws. There is a tweak-list out there on Missing-Lynx. If all goes well, the mailman will deliver the Stuka zu Fuß this week. When I have improved my skills, I will build that one, giving it the full treatment.

One more vote for the Zvezda T-60! It´s ridiculously terrible!

I paid two euros of it, I thought I´m going to need a bashed vehicle sometime. It didn´t occur to me then that a destroyed vehicle propably needs even more details to be convincing than a solid one. I have great pics of piles of Russian armour lying in the side of road, covered with thick snow.
Ideal kit for that purpose. Only problem was that the Russians didn´t use those tanks in Finland that time...

There is only 1: or 2 ?

Jagdpanzer 38 D from New Connection followed closely by Jagdpanzer 38 D with AK7B
Gun, also from New Connection.
A lesson in bad moulding, bad instructions, missing parts, warped parts and all
for 199.-€ each! I am lucky I did not have to buy them..it was enough horror to built them.

Anything that has AER written down on it !
I tried the GAZ too...
The problem is that these kits are very cheap so they might tempt beginners... only to turn them away from models !
