Boy am I hit.
I just checked my closet where I store my unbuilt kits, Several RPM TKS, The old DML Nashorn, BA 20, Su 76. Several Zvezda's T60's Bt 5 and T26 as well as ISU 152. All of these listed in here. I guess Im going to have to have someone else choose kits for me. #:-)

Don't feel bad about the DML Nashorn, I built it with some AM items, and it came out looking good. One of my good works.

If you look at these postings as I have you will notice that the really BAD models fall into a couple of catagories:

Russian made kits
Resin Kits
The odd Asian kit

Kits coming from the former Soviet Union are still in their infancy. Think western models some 25 years ago. Although we would like to think all manufacturers are up to current Tamiya or Dragon standards the truth is they aren't.

Resin Kits - NO friggen excuse. You plunk down a big chunk o' change and get crap. Warped and broken parts are minor compared to the lack of instruction, wrong locations, un-readable instructions that come with these kits. Check out the latest edition of MMIR. I guy plunks down $160 US dollars for a duce and a half. He ends up buying a copy of the Tech Manual so he can put the parts where they belong. Why? Cause the instructions suck.
Resin has gotten out of control. Demands must be made on Manufacturers to produce quality. I am tired of people making excuses for this by saying "it's a resin kit, that's what you get." The reason I so hot about resin is that I was one of those slubs who plunked down a chunk of change for a resin kit and got burned. (Jaguar - M551 Sheridan)

Other than the DML Krad - my experience with the Asian would of kits has been very good.

(++) The Encore Polish armored car....without a doubt the worst yet.....followed closely by Airfix's Monty's Humber..what a piece of junk! Luckily i only spent about $7.00 total on these models. Bodeen

I have actually two really bad kits that I have never finished

I start with the the second to worst kit

Years ago I got this Russian kit of a huge sykorsky helicopter (I said a russian kit so the boxart spoke russian to me and then you suddenly find out that your russian is what it never was. Second problem was that the instruction form only contained an image of the complete helicopter from one side and from their you had to glue the whole helo together (including the missingontheinstructionpaperinterior ) Next problem was that a lot of the parts were warped/missing or whatever bad you could imagine happen to parts. And I wont even want to talk long about the terrible fit of all and I say ALL the parts

The latest and really worst kit I have ever had was from the ...... brand I guess you already guessed ZVEZDA is going to take the place of the dots. The kit I want to talk about is the ZVEZDA white scout car. Now this really is the worst kit I have ever had in my hands. Never encountered such a mess when I opened a box and the worst thing was that it was a gift from my father to me so I actually had the feeling of don`t dissapoint the old man. It sat for three months on the shelves before I had the guts to start it. Well all the parts had so much flash/sinkholes and more stuff only a terrorist would come with to torment poor modelers that I only spend 2 weeks of cleaning them. The flash on some parts was so bad that they were connected with other parts creating a new part that was almost bigger then one side of the whitescoutcar itself and not to be found back on no instructionsheet. I tried to do my best on it. Well I finnally had more or less cleaned all the parts and now it was time to assemble the thing and there another gruesome discovery was made none of the parts had a good fit and more then 30 percent of the parts were terribly warped. For another three weeks I stressed working on this vehicle and after those three weeks I had something like damn present of my dad and I picked up the whole thing and threw it in a lot of pieces against the wall I was really superfrustrated and I did it pure for the sanity of myself.
Now all the parts are serving in my scrapbox and I don`t think one part will ever come out of it even if I really need a part like that.

This last event also made a terrible fear of everything that is called ZVEZDA and in all the hobby shops I really try to avoid that brand as much as possible. And it doesn`t matter if ZVEZDA makes really good cars in one but for me ZVEZDA is the Lada under the modeling manufacturers

Thanks for listening to my modeling sorrows

My personal worst was Sol's Strv103B. The upper hull is a giant piece of resin and so warped that it's hopeless. Then about a year later, along comes Trumpeter's kit for about a fifth of the price and built up like a charm.

mines was eastern express's kv2 what pile of junk tracks were crap 2 peices per track,
gun barrel was a solid bit of plasticand parts were fitted to the sprue very thickly as 'm not very experienced as a modeller yet it put me right off that brand of kits and most other kits from eastern europe must just be spoiled by the bigger players in the game but saying that tamiya's re-issued horch is bad has not aged well and warped parts and also ill fitting on the major parts

I built the Glencoe PT also.It had sinkholes, and a funny weird sort of plastic. It is the only available PT76 for now,as far as I know. All the more reason I wish DML/Tamiya or Italeri would do some coldwar armor...

Hey TankCarl, Eastern Express does a much better kit (than glencoe) of the PT-76, but be prepared to pay about $26 US...OUCH!

The Eastern Express kit qualifies as a annoying kit...it builds well, but really need the PE set made for it. (I try to keep away from PE if I can but like the SKIF BMD-1, it looks too toylike without the PE to help "sharpen the edges") Also, considering the kit, which while accurate is rather spare, the price is TOO DARN HIGH. Just like Hobby Fan kits...but maybe taht is another topic...

PS. Big Jim, so noted, sir!

My Dragon Scud launcher sits, unfinished, in the same spot it has been in for 2 years. I understand with patience this builds up nice but I got sick of fighting with it. I was thinking about painting it up like the Partridge Family bus for the T2K campaign.

Sing along... "Hello world here's a Scud that we're launching, Come on get happy..."
