Friends,

I need your advice on one of my ideas :

On September 17 in 1944 operation "Market Garden" took place. This means that in 2004 it will be exactly 60 years ago since the largest airborne operation in history was executed.

I'd like to prepare a Campaign that is dedicated to operation "Market Garden" and I think it will be perfect to plan the Campaign in or around September 2004 to avoid an overfilled Campaign agenda (there will be more 60th anniversary events next year, that that may end up in Campaigns, so let's start planning). Maybe a closing date on September 17 (startdate of the actual operation) or September 26 (enddate of the actual operation) would be even better.

Some of my questions to you :

Do we want this Campaign ?
Who is interested in joining the Campaign in 2004 ?
Should we have a special subject or do we allow all scenes of the operation ?
Should we have a maximum base size, or should we stimulate bigger dio's ?
What should be the start- and enddate ?
Who can develop the Campaign ribbon ?
Do we keep the Campaign limited to dio's or do we also allow figures, vignettes, armor et. that are related to operation Market Garden ?
etc.

So let's start talking about this Campaign idea that I have. If you don't like the idea, can't find the time, have better ideas etc...... just be hounest. Give me some input to work with.

I'd like this to become something special as a tribute to those who joined the operation 60 years ago.

So, what do you think ? Please share your ideas and thought with me..... !!

Hmmmm let me think ... ok long enough. Yes

Eagle - you bet - Count me in. I think we should open it up to any subject related to the opreation so that all genre's (AFV, AC, Figures, etc) can participate. I think we should set Minimums for either Base Size or # of Figures and to have a requirement of at least a base of some kind to keep the diorama connection.

I'll throw in my hat to create a ribbon.

Eagle, a lot could happen in a year but count me in. I think this would be a great campaign. Personally I like the idea of this being a diorama campaign but if you decide to also include stand alone armor and figures that will be fine too.

I think having a modeling Campaign to celebrate the anniversary of a real Campaign is a very good idea. It would be a nice effort if all interested modelers could build something to participate.

I like the Idea count me in and I think that the ribbon should have a pegasus on it or something

I think a dio would do nice since this is "diorama talk"

but a figure would be good also
altough Im not that good in 120mm figures

Sounds great. There's a lot of other stuff that we could do to for the 60th anniversary next year too. My thoughts on the ribbon are it should be orange, for obvious reasons. Don't care what else is put on it, but I think the overall color should be orange

Danny

I really like the idea for a Market garden campaign and with a year to think out some ideas I think I will have a go at this.

As far as the starting date of this campaign I think it`s rather fitting to start at the same date as the british paratroopers boarded their planes to go to their DC`s. For me that`s the true celebration of this event.
We could make a list of what exactly happened there and what choose of vehicles we have posting links on the subject can also be very valuable.

Plus the fact that this campaign is dealing in dutch history makes it quite interesting I think

Yep I really like this idea and I hope that a lot of suggestions will pop up in this thread

Well,

from the reactions that have been posted so far, I think I can say we can have a go at this.

Tell me, Should we have a "special subject" in the campaign, or can it be open for all ideas ? I was thinking that we could have a Campaign for all groups (Armour, Dio, Figs etc..), but with a special rule that the entry has to be based on an actual Market Garden event, scene, vehicle, figure etc.

To avoid misunderstandings in the diorama section, this Campaign is NOT about BIG diorama's alone. The rules, that will be posted at a later moment in time, will provide details about this, but it's NOT gonna be a BIG, BIGGER, BIGGEST Campaign. I for one just love the small vignettes and dioramas. So much emotion in such a small area....wonderful.

About the ribbon I agree that it has got to have a Pegasus, Wing, or whatever airborne related sign in it. Maybe you can start making some of those ribbons, so we can choose the best... (Slodder....... ?).

Too early to bring up this Campaign idea.... I don't think so. This early planning stages avoid multiple Campaigns running at the same time. Like I said, next year is gonna be a year with a lot of things that happened 60 years ago..... so who knows what Campaigns will come up with those 60 yrs celebrations / rememberings.

Thanks for all your comments and ideas so far. Please keep your thoughts comming !

NB : Last night I ran into this dio... it's all about Arnhem, where the 1st. British Airborne Brigade knew only too well that they went a bridge too far. I just want to share this with you.

Hi Eagle,
Me thinks it is a great Idea,Though I usually have a lot of ideas, but building: If only...!
Still, I would like to participate. I you take the whole operation of Market-Garden, the scope will be quite broad! US paratrooper, Brittish Advance from the belian border......, need to go on?
It will be quite intersting what people come up with. I've got a couple of nice books 'bout this campaign, so ideas won't be a problem!

yea count me in to!
Since this is such along way ahead and will give us plenty of time to prepare, how about using the operation dates as the start and finish? Sept 17-26. Or do people think this is too short a time. It would certainly make it interesting.
Cheers

An excellent suggestion for a campaign. Just a couple of points though, firstly can we get it firmed-up soon and secondly can it be narrowed down a little bit in case it turns into a german-armor fest....Sorry guys, you know I'm only half-kidding....Jim

This is a splendid idea, but I don't know if it could be done....most of the MG Bridges are quite large, not to say enormous.... But the idea is excellent. I'll think it over !

We'll be in touch.
