How to model a T-64

As Zaloga states in his kit review, the T-64A carried the "flat" extra fuel tanks on the left side and zip storage on the right...there are extra fuel tanks on the -A. It just seems that the usual "drum" fuel tanks did not come into use until later...hence using them on the rear deck if they were indeed used that way. The common use of fuel tanks on brackets off the rear plate was not used, SFAIK, until the -B.

Hi folks, just thought I'd provide a few scans from Carey Schofield's book "Inside the Soviet Military". The book is rather broad in scope but has some "action" images of equipment on exercise, including these T-64 variants. All images were taken in 1989 IIRC.

Just enough to run around set of running gear! (Ducks and runs away...)

T-64 operator and maintenance manuals state 78 links per side. Your kit "mileage" may vary.

Hi guys! In building a trumpeter t-64 1981 kit. May i ask what is the deaignation for that? Is that an A or B? And how accurate is the kit?

To represent a T-64AV w/era blocks variant, is the T-64A MOD 1981 (#01579) of trumpeter suitable? Which era blocks of MINIARM should be used? The ERA Bricks "Contact-3" Type-A (#35046) or the Type-B (#35047)

For ERA...The T-64AV will use both Type A and B, but mostly A. Type B was only used in certain areas. Consult references, but also know that Trumpeter has announced both a T-64A with ERA and T-64B with ERA to come out in 2014.

For the fuel cells, if you are referring to the tanks on the rear, they were supposed to be jettisoned or removed before combat. ALL T-64's were meant to use the fuel tanks, so even if you do not see pics of them in use, they were meant to be used.

Thanks for the reply! I hope they will release at least one of them but i did not see them in their new catalogue and i was disappointed and searching for alternative plans to build a T-64 WITH ERA!

Been eyeing this thread for awhile. Some great info (and builds too!). I'm a brailler but a fellow builder suggested I ask here about the best T-? to start a T-64 project. We braille guys aren't fortunate enough to have a -64 in our scale. Thoughts/suggestions please.

Ok... Nice Tank, but why??
The T-64BV didn't saw any real action... Served only in the USSR (and maybe in the DDR), painted green, and except from drills, it was always clean... or it was not??
