Help to produce a proper T-64. Anyone can add information. I will try to post updated information at the top of this thread to make a quick, one stop information source, but it will be kept intentionally focused as quick help. Detailed discussion will still remain in the thread itself. All contributions welcome.

Personally I only built the T-64 AK version, some years ago.
It had some nice details but I didn't like the plastic quality, the hull wasn't easy to align and the tracks were awful.
But still it was an ok kit, some Eastern Express kits were much worse.

Miniarm makes a couple nice pieces for the Skif kit

Your going to need at least one of the turrets and the tracks to help make an accurate T-64 out of the Skif kit.

I do not have the AA conversions, but I believe the SKIF T-64 hulls are the same in both kits. Anyone?

You could use the AA conversion to make a early T64B 1975 model with the gill armour.
I`d already done the 1981 model from AA so i used a miniarm conversion to make a 1975 model
I did them in different colour schemes and they look well side by side.

Is there a UK stockist for Miniarm products, does any one know as i`d like to do another one?
Also, is there any further news of the Trumpeter offerings of this great little tank?

Despite the abuse leveled at Skif's T-64 track link set they can be used, however they must be filed to fit, and there are exactly as many as you need, so don't lose or break any.

The T-64BM kit has additional anti-radiation liners on the upper hull IIRC. They are pretty easy to remove though.

Fortunately I won't have to bother with the Skif track links any more, the workable links from Trumpeter fit the Skif kit's drive sprockets and wheels like a glove.

Skif models do need a lot of extra work besides the use of aftermarket set, dont use the link by link tracks also from Skif, they dont fit, even together!
I am now building a T-64B from skif and since Trumpeter is about to produce a new one, i wonder if it is worth to continue.

I'm working on an A and while I'm pleased Trumpeter put out a new kit I've gone quite aways on mine including rebuilding the turret (straight from the box it's terrible) so I'm a bit past the pitch and toss stage. I guess it depends how far you've gone but now that there are better tracks it actually is possible to build a good non-Trumpeter T-64 but it takes weeks and weeks of work.

surely it depends on how far the construction has gone. I have almost total rebuild the turret using Tamiya epoxy puty and I have replace from scratch many others. I will continue because here in Greece the Trumpeter kit is quite expensive.

I'm looking at getting the Trumpeter T-64. I want to make a Soviet tank deployed in East Germany. Would the A model have been there? Thanks for any help.

Soviet group of forces Germany was the main armoured formation armed with any type of T-64, the -A included. The old Concord publications book for T-64 and T-80 has enough photos but you will find many at the internet.

Seth - Yes, the T-64A was deployed to Soviet Ground Forces Germany. In fact, it is documented that they received the -A first.

Generally, they were painted overall dark green with 3-digit ID numbers. Building the Trumpeter T-64 kit 01578 (which is a T-64A m72 regardless of the model box cover) OOB will yield what you want.

If you use "т-64 гсвг" for searching the internet you'll find a lot of pictures of these tanks.
I've a question too. The trumpeter kit includes fuel drums (and some other parts which are obviously for the t-64b version) but these are not used. Does anyone knows if this is correct that fuel drums were not used with the mod 1972 or is this something special of the trumpeter kit. The skif t-64a has them but it seems to be an t-64a mod 1975. If anyone knows; thanks.

I would say no, that the T-64A did not have rear fuel tanks, as per KMDB's writeup on the -A

It does appear to MAYBE have been able to mount them OVER the engine deck though (MAYBE) as per KMDB's writeup on the Obiekt 476

I dont think that fuel drums were used according the tank type, I've seen T-64Bs carrying standard T-54/55 flat fuel drums in place of the usual ones. I strongly recommend the following book.
OCHOBHOH BOEBON TAHK T-64, Boehhbin Mysen (or sth.like that) it is in russian language but it has extremely detailed photos and blueprints for every T-64 type. I am sorry I cannot write the publisher correct. ISBN.5-94038-022-0. I believe that Trumpeter will issue at least 2 more T-64 models.
