This thread will cover Soviet WWII tanks. There is so much out there that has already been done that this is more of a redirection thread than anything else. Again, feel free to add to the discussion.

Jacques, many thanks for the compliment but 4bogreen only covers the KV family and, to a much lesser extent so far, the IS series. There's a lot more to Soviet WW2 tanks than just those families...the T-34, the early T-28 and T-35, the BT series, the T-26 and so on. I only hope I live long enough to tackle the majority of them in book in and web form

True Neil, but you have the best one stop shop for what you have covered.

Also, any coverage I do on WWII tanks would not do them justice (they are not my passion in life) and I wanted to offer at least a place for the information to start.

Now, if I could encourage you to cover the plethora of WWII Russian armor...

HI All, have just been promised the Tamiya JS-2 FOR XMAS,can anyone give me details of where I can buy any detail up sets better tracks etc. as I'm not long back in the groove and things have sure changed since Iwas a lad building Airfix Spitfires then setting fire to them in an imaginary dogfight.Thanks in advance foe any help.

For a good feel for things, this is NOT an endorsement, go to Great Models Webstore and type in IS-2 and JS-2 . What you see will be a good cross section of available items for ALL kits...just make sure it is compatible for the Tamiya kit. Again, this will give you and idea of what is available on the after market.

Once you have an idea of what you want to do to the kit, more specific help can be rendered...ie, if you want after market tracks, I know many people swear by Fruilisimo metal link-to-link tracks...and many swear at them!

It might b a bit pricey, but Tamiya magazine did a 5 (?) part series on building the IS-2. It covers the build and aftermarket very well, plus it has a very nice how-to on a beautiful painting and weathering job.

Now everybody knows the AFV Club T-34 series w/ interior... Now it should be good that somebody tell us exactly the failures of those kits.

I am not sure what you are upset about. It links directly to a proper webpage that checks out. There is no scam that I can find.

I'm part way through a KV1 with cast turret and I have a KV122 to complete too. So I'll be keeping an eye on this.

There are indeed very few pictures of it - as only a few test units of IT-28 were ever built.

Question: The site mentioned above shows a profile of a KV-1 1941 s Ekranami witha cyrillic "B" painted on the turret:

this shows the lower hull armour fitted. Another pic of actual vehicle here:

doesn't show clearly whether this was actually fitted. Does anyone know of another pic of this vehicle which clearly shows this armour fitted?

There is mention in Neil Stokes "KV - Technical History & Variants" of this modification, but not of this specific tank. I think you would be ok in building it as you wish, unless you need photographic proof, which I am unable to find.

Hey, Russophiles, I have a questions about KV-1 armor.

I have a Trumpeter 1/35 KV-1 model 1941 that features additional optional armor plates on the upper and lower glacis and on the sides of the hull above the fenders. I want to depict the plates as unpainted bare steel with the look of a field mod, but I don't know if that's appropriate. Was this armor installed at the factory, added in the field, or both?
