Since I needed to clear away the spray booth, I pushed on with gloss coating, decals, and matt coat first. I also "dusted" the Puma with a very thinned coat of the dark yellow base to tie in all the colours...

Now I need to paint all the tools do some washes/dry brushing, add wheels, etc...

Tom

PS: The greenish cast is from taking pics under an "energy-saver" bulb - I failed to correct it in Photoshot! There was a definite lack of daylight this afternoon...

@ Michael: can you post a larger pic, I personally would like to see this build and welcome onboard.

@ Tom: nice freehand paint job, makes me jealous anyway I know what you mean regarding the light bulb.

I can, but there's not much more to see as it is a work in progress and I didn't bother getting a good camera setup and lighting.

Since it is hosted on ImageShack you just need to click on it to see a higher res version, but I'm sure you already knew that

John, I'm using Tamiya acrylics (Dark yellow, red brown, olive green) shot through my AB at low pressure with about 50% thinners for a "free-hand" camo based on the photo in the Squadron book. After the initial camo I oversprayed a very thinned coat of yellow (maybe 90% thinners? I didn't measure...) to key it all in before the decals, then another thinned coat afterwards to tone down the decals. In between I glossed with Micro Gloss, decaled, re-glossed and then used Pollyscale Flat Finish. The yellow over-sprays give that lovely "far away hazy" look to it...

There will now be a long delay as I brush-paint all those little details!

Tom,

Thank you for the information. I suspected you were using Tamiya paints. When I was a very young lad, my LHS had a nice large rack of Humbrol paints and I cut my teeth using Humbrol and Model Master enamels. That’s what I am still using today.

I’ve tried acrylics in the past and didn’t like the results I was getting, so I stuck with the enamels. I often think about trying the acrylics again as I fear Humbrol paints may be hard to get some day.

I really like the results that you have, so this may inspire me to give them a try again.

John,

I use Humbrol for brush-painting, but I don't like the idea of spraying enamels & thinners in the house. I used Pollyscale acrylics for trains, so moving over to Tamiya seemed a natural step. The thinners are alcohol-based, but not too bad - the paint can go on very smoothly once you get the hang of it. The only down-sides are that they don't "keep" well once opened, and are a nightmare to brush-paint. (The alcohol base lifts underlying paint if you're not careful...) The good thing is they grip well, unlike softer paints like Vallejo.

Tom: Thanks for the info, that Puma is looking real good

John: Nobody that I'm aware carries Humbrol around where I live, and we have a pretty good selection of shops.
And if I remember correctly, I think that Canadian retailers are phasing the Humbrol paints out... may want to check on this though.

Hello fellows,

around two years ago, I started the GAZ AA truck from Zvesda. I started buid it as a captured vehicle by the german army painted in white winter camouflage and modified with a cabin made of wood. It's more or less 50% done.
Will it be ok?

Nice weekend

Darek, nice project I just love that and most trucks from that period. Could you post a photo of the build as it sits at the moment, you know I alwasys wondered if these were patterned after the Ford or the Dodge chassis. I know that thousands were supplied to the Red Army for lend lease and often wonder how the Red Army crews liked them. Such as maintenance, driveablility cargo load, and the such.

Ford built a truck/car plant for the Russians in the 1920s or 30s and they produced Ford trucks there ever after, but not labelled as Fords of course......

Here endeth the lesson.

Darek: That is awesome! I love those trucks and have the same kit myself

And Warren would be correct. The GAZ and ZIS vehicles, among many others, were patterned basically after Ford vehicles for quite sometime thereafter. Since we're going down this road, google Russian + Packard

Jeremy,

I don’t even have any shops around me, except Hobby Lobby. I have to mail order Humbrol. I haven’t bought any in a while, but I normally buy 6 tins of the same color when I do buy. I have a pretty good stash of Humbrol paints. Some are 25 + years old and still good as long as they are factory sealed.

Derak,

Lets seem some pictures of that FORD.

John: In that kind of situation the value of the internet can truly be appreciated I know what you mean about just having a Hobby Lobby. When I spend time up in Montana I have to drive at least an hour to the nearest "city" just to find a Hobby Lobby, and like you've pointed out they don't have much, if anything

Hello guys,

here some pics of my project, the GAZ AA from Zvesda (1:35).

The kit is ok so far. I will build a captured vehicle by the german army. They modified it with a cabin made of wood. I have some original pics with such modifications.
This little truck will do service in a maintenance unit in winter whitewash camouflage.
Here some pics.

OK so I am going to attempt to show some pics of my first two projects. The T-34 needs to be finished up, while the Pz III L needs stripped, repainted, and final parts added. Here are the pics, hopefully.

Hi, Sorry for posting a little late but i was waiting for a few etch parts to arrive before posting up my photos.

My Firefly was started about 4 years ago, and has languished in the back of my stash ever since. I decided to and add a little more detail to the kit with the etch set from Eduard.

Unfortunately it was a little bent when it arrived from Hannants, but the main parts are not damaged. I'm Waiting on a replacement barrel.
I'm going to finish it as "Carole" 13th/18th Hussars using the archer dry transfers, the kit decals are pretty woeful.
I can't locate my reference photos for "Carole", i know there was a magazine article a few years back, but i can't remember which magazine it was. If anyone knows I would be grateful for a little hint.

All the best
Dean
