Hi all - just some pictures of my 1/48 Bf109k I finished a few months back. I had to leave off
the aerial wire as we were moving house and I just KNEW it wouldn't be worth attaching !!!

Thanks Tomcat
Yeah I'm normally rather generous with my weathering, but other than exhaust stains I wanted to keep this 109 fairly clean - owing to the rather short operational life of such late war 109s - it was unusual for late war 109s to last longer than a handful of missions in defence of the Reich.

The camo was masked using normal masking tape - but carefully shaped using knife and scissors - the tail was masked using blue tack.
The Base concrete was just a piece of card, scored with a sharp point, sprayed grey, and then shaded with pastels - very easy to make.
Oh - and the figure was a resin chappie but I forget who by

Excellent paint job, great figure, very good construction overall, nice tarmac. Nice subtle weathering, too, and I like the very subltle way you accented your panel lines, just enough to make them obvious but not overpowering. However, you're getting a lot of silvering on the red markings on the wings and on the outside of the crosses and the 4. On very straihgt edges like the crosses and the 4, you might consider using a straightedge and fresh #11 to trim away the carrier film. Do you apply a gloss coat before applying the decals? Also, you might want to use some decal setting solutions.

Very very nice skii,I see a little bit of silvering on the crosses, but thats just one of thoswe things, maybe another matt caot could get rid of that. looks like you've got your self a winner,BTW Is this done with an airbrush? If so what type?

Thanks guys - yeah the dreaded silvering ! I should have used some Johnsons Klear but learned about the technique a little too late lol - oh well, I won't make the same mistake again. The Airbrush is a cheap Revell type - good for single colour paintjobs, not so good for intricate work - so I have to rely on extensive masking particularly where camoflage is concerned. I've asked for a decent Airbrush for Christmas
many thanks for the kind comments - makes it all that bit more worthwhile

Hi Skii
Very nice! :-) Late war '109s are very cool... :-)
Airwarrior's right... there is a bit of silvering Did you apply the decals over a gloss coat? That's normally the solution. I'm not sure another coat of matt over the decals will get rid of the problem - in my experience, is more likely to seal the silvering in for posterity!
Glad to have you aboard - keep 'em coming! :-)
All the best

:-) Very nice looking late war 109, pity about the silvering on some of the decals but sounds like you will have that sorted for the next one. The spiral on the spinner is particularly well done, is it masked and painted or a decal?
Looking forward to more of your pics, any spitfires? (you just can'y have to many Spits :-) )

Both lol ! annoyingly the decal was see through, so I had to paint over it - however wih enough layers of varnish it turned out ok. Hmmm a Spit, very tempting (would have to be a Mk1 though )
Many thanks for the kind comments

Hi Skiii
Sorry, our posts about silvering must have crossed - frustrating when people pitch in about points you've just dealt with! :-)
I have to say, this little chappie has been rather overlooked in all the a/c talk - he's damned fine... I wish I could paint figures!! :-)

First off, welcome to Armorama, and second thanks for showing us this great 109, (very very well done). Paint/weathering on this bird is very solid, and the fig is also a fine effort. I admire you aircraft guys-------Good stuff!

Outsatnding Job. Very, very nice. I agree with Holdfast about the silvering (use Future before decaling to avoid that). How did you paint the spirals on the spinner ?
What brand is the kit, is it Revell ?

Many thanks for all your kind comments.
The kit was by Hasegawa - superb quality model, let down by awful decals which I hear are not uncommon for Hasegawa kits - anyway, this served as a learning experience as I previously thought that all that was needed for application was warm water lol !
I masked and pinted the whole model, and sprayed it with gloss varnish onto which I applied the decals (which wasn't enough to prevent them sivering but oh well)- a few washes, a layer of Citadel matt varnish (superb stuff) and finally some drybrushing + weathering.
The spinner was a decal which I painted over because it was see-through against the black prop
Although I'm fairly pleased with the result it taught me a lot about techniques and necessary materials - all in all well worthwile.
I must thank you all for the warm welcome here and the compliments on my work, it definately makes the hobby that bit more satisfying.

Hi All,
About the silvering decals on your excellent Karl, some personal experience.
On sealed decals I have pricked the silvered part with a pin or X-acto. Then apply diluted Future/Klear. That flows between the decal and paint. Most of my tries have removed the silver. If it doesn't, the silvered area is probabaly sealed for good.
Or, try pricking and applying with--seriously!--liquid glue! This removed silvering from my Dullcoated Italeri Tiger and from an off-brand biplane. TEST FIRST! It has attacked some decals.
All the best,
Fred

I am an exclusive armour builder but I can appreciate a good ME 109.
Your use of the preshading technique is excellent.
Keep up the good work,
Andrew
