It''s now, (at least where i'm writing this) monday the 31st of January. So, following the request made by Masterbox Ltd i've embargoed this story until now. It frankly hasn''t been easy as I hope the photos will show. The Photo-Report on the first view of 35100 - German Military Car, Typ 170 V, Tourenwagen, 4 T (1937-40) can be seen:

Ha! Not even close to anybody's guess in your teaser thread, Jim, but a beautiful model none the less! Looks like a gem, It's now on my list.

Sweet! Not as original as a scale pet rock, but definitely more useful...
Any hint yet if MB will be developing the other varieties of the 170V, like the 2-door, the 4-door hard-top, or the van? With the chassis & main panels moulded the way they are it would be easy to kit up these variants at bargain tooling costs!
I predict another trend for this year's contest tables...

Looks like a really nice kit.

Wow! So many diorama possibilities. And even built as a civilian car, it'll be a great model.

I know a lot of Allied and Modern modelers will be disappointed but I am happy as a pig in poop! I love these WWII era soft skins. Thank you Masterbox!

Interesting detail: This car was also produced POST WWII in various variants. Including the cargo variant and a variant used by the Police and Border Patrols of West Germany. Production ended 1953 so it is resonably used for szenes well into the early 1960s (cargo variants). Or as an "oldtimer" even past that time. Given that a large number of the almost 200.000 vehicles where post WWII production.

Why is there a grainy texture on all the surfaces? Is that a rough coat of primer?

I think so
It seems very nice. i haven't been waiting for it for ages, but it could very useful for ww2 dios.
Considering the Tamiya Traction avant and this kit, depicting civilian cars is a brand new trend
(so now i'm waiting for a Fiat Topolino....or for some eastern sedan of sixty, seventy... )

I am a softskin fan and must say I really like this little kit, I'm not wild about the rubber tires though. They aren't black plastic are they?

Pretty cool...I like it. Though I'm with Tom up there, I wish/hope they develop the other varieties of the 170V, like the 2-door, the 4-door hard-top.
Thanks Masterbox!

WOW! Wonderful news!
Masterbox has done it again! This kit is at my top wish list! As a WWII dio builder, this kit is definitively a must have for my stash!
And it seems pretty well moulded with lots of detail, so I guess you could turn it into a great building, and it is affordable to build a vignette / diorama like this:
Cheers,
Pablo

Excellent model choice from Masterbox. I will fit in very well with any diorama or just on its own. I am sure plenty of figure sets will be released for it as well.

By coincidence, a local Wedding rental company has a 1948 Mercedes Saloon which is identical to the Pre-War Saloon. When the production lines were opened up Post-War, the blueprints were used...

Hi
Those have been in Masterbox's "In Progress" section for quite some time. Hopefully they are getting close to release.

So it looks like ICM is releasing the same kit under their label. Guess it comes down to whichever one is cheaper!

Are you saying that because of the picture posted on Prime Portal's site under ICM, because I think the pictures are a little mixed up and that should go under Masterbox.
Look at one image, it has a "new" label close to it in the corner of the picture. That style of text is different to "new" posted on labels at ICM's stand but is the same as the "new" label seen against other items on the Masterbox stand.
That's how I see it anyway.
Alan
