Hi Rod! Thanks again for your support
Just incase anyone thinks I've abandoned this build it couldn't be any further from the truth
I'm just up to my tits with work the past two weeks and havn't had time to update the blog sorry
Saying that I'm getting a few bits done every few days. The entire model has been Primed and has already been airbrushed with the first coat of NATO Green.
I'm spending some time studying the 40mm H&K GMG and I'm having some work done on the wheels, this is going to be really interesting so stay tuned
I have some spare time coming to me during the week so I hope to update the blog with some new pics

That is looking real good Roy! Is the welding on the roll cage really that rough on the real thing?

Hi Jeremy!
Ouch! no the welding is done by Ricardo in factory, the same as Landrover WMIKs & is fitted before delivery. The weld marks are just Like any other professional welded frame! My handiwork isn't as accurate
Photos in macro have a tendency to show up all & every crack, bump & wrinkle! Still though, im not gonna make excuses, I have been sanding since the photos were taken & the first coat of NATO Green when dried showed less signs of my handiwork
I really need to update this blog with photos soon

If the seams are still a bit rough you could try a little Mr. Surfacer (if you have any!) and see how it turns out. Looking forward to seeing the next bunch of photos !

Karl: Thanks man, I'm using some Alclad Primer which is pretty "gritty", its great for cobering up some blemishes!
Scott: your wish is my command
I've just been airbrushing this morning, while everything is drying I've decided to update the blog!
I orginally airbrushed this NATO green (Tamiya Acyrlics).
Most modern irish armour is in this livery.
However after I took these photos and I studied the real thing I realised the base green isnt NATO, its a sort of Khaki Drab!!
So after I took these photos the Ford went back under the Airbrush, more updates later..

Hi Roy,
it's turning great with the base paint on ! Keep us posted. I hope you'll have not too much bad time with the 40mm launcher.

Hey Guys, thanks to all for the kind words and support!
I know I have been a bit slow updating the build blog the last 2 weks, I've just been up to my tits with work!
However I have been doing some work on the Ford, mostly painting and I've kept a record of the process, I wont bore you with all the detail so I'll just update you guys with the latest pictures taken just yesterday.
I've still got alot of work to do so hang in there with me
Still more Airbrushing and ALOT of weathering to do!!
Wheels are nearly finished and I'm starting work on the 40mm H&K GMG!
Camo nets and stowage selected and will be added shortly..
back soon

Looking good Roy!
A good complaint in the current climate and also very civic minded to pay more taxes to be given to the banks....

Guys thanks for ALL your support and kind words!
It really helps when a model runs way over time!
I'm trying to have this ready for the IMSS competition in Dublin at the end of May so hang in there with me guys, we are nearly there! ll
Karl, I'm going to go with some airbrushing and pigments, I have few tricks to pull yet before I start the weathering!
Sean, welcome to the new world of legalised slavery, dont worry though, you wont have time to think about it, you'll be too busy trying to work and pay off depts to the governmant and banking instuitions that put you there
I had a few hours free today so dived straight into the 40mm Grenade MG build!
The German Produced H&K 40mm Grenade Machine Gun entered service with the Irish Defence Forces around 2007 with the introduction of CRV variant of the Mowag Piranha III.
Here are a few pictures of the weapon in Irish Service;
Here is one mounted on a Mowag CRV;
And here is the 40mm GMG on the Ford;
I built my weapon from scratch using plastic card and brass. The only part not scratchbuilt is the barrel and muzzle which I altered from the Tamiya US version.
Here is the mount for the weapon, also scratched (except for the centre post and mount)
lastly the two together before assembly
hope to update this again over the next few days, chat soon

Looking very good so far...
Ambitious scratching the machingun/grenade gun, as those seem to be the 'make-or-break' type of details.
One point though (and perhaps you still have to get to it), there is still a small gap/seam where the brass handle attaches to the horizontal rod (and machine gun) - see bottom image. I presume that it is not there on the real thing (probably a weld there?) - and it is one of the noticeable issues; at least, my eye was drawn to it almost immediately.
Cheers,
Harm

Very nice Roy. Are you adding a belt of rounds?
