I just got my Trumpy BMP-3, Voyager basic PE, and Voyager barrels in. This will be my build for the Eastern European Steel campaign and I'll be posting here for all of the people that aren't enlisted. I am still new to PE and am looking at over 100 pieces with this kit. I am looking for an engine for the kit and may purchase a Skif one, if it comes with an engine.

Can not wait to see the build. I just got trumpys early in the mail yesterday and have to say it's far ahead of the older skif kit. By the way the old skif kit did not come with an engine in it, just a basic interior far below the details in the trumpy kit. Good luck with the build

no engine in either one, Trump made a good kit, needs some cleaning here and there, and some added details

Very informative Tha Pit. I'll be posting photos haphazardly as I will be doing assemblies and photo-etch to make for an easier build.

I'm working on one right now too!
I got the RBModels update - it was only $13.00 US @ LuckyModels with free shipping). Im leaving all the interior out as it'll be buttoned up - and it'll save time. I really like the kit; its well engineered and a pleasure to build.....

I'm also going to order the Voyager machine gun set, as the one with the kit looks like a toy. Only pushes me up to $80 on this kit.

O.K. I finally felt confident enough in my pe skills to tackle this monster. I nearly have the turret finished and most of the work on the hull is complete. I should have the am machine guns by the end of the month, due to shipping being so slow. I will post some photos tomorrow.

Some progress photos:

Sorry about the quality. My flourescent went out on me and I haven't had the money to buy a new lamp. I'll post some photos of the hull, next.

...detal open???? It must be closed!!
No need to be aggressive Igor. It's a simple fix and a easy mistake to make.

Igor: OK. No harm no foul. I appreciate the specifics.
Karl: The Voyager set could be a little more robust. Some of the pieces break when bent. Otherwise, there are some fit issues. I had to cut two very large holes to replace the plastic periscopes. The mounts for the smoke launcher are too small. The barrel required me to cut off the mounting pin, drill a large hole, and finally I was able to shoehorn it in.
Lots of colorful adjectives come to mind.

You're doing very good work so far, Matt.. I'm interested in this vehicle, too.. and I'll be following this thread.
I have a general question about the BMP-3, if I may... is the recently released UAE version a lot different from the other Russian ones, or is it just a matter of some decals.. I mean, are the differences noticeable?
Cheers

Thank you for all of the kind and constructive comments. For this camo pattern, do I need to mix paints to match or does anybody know the exact paints to use?

What I find interesting in this pic is the paint on the rubber parts of the wheels. Tell me you wouldn't get dinged at a contest with a paint job like that.

Matt, this is just off the top of my head after looking at the photo but the paints I would pick are Vallejo Model Air Interior Green, Model Air Dark Earth (for the brown) and Model Air Sand Yellow.
If I was using Tamiya I would probably go for XF-59 Desert Yellow, Tamiya XF-68 NATO Brown and XF-5 Flat Green with some white added.
Just my 2 cents bud.
Good luck,

Hmm, I can not tell you the exact colors, but possibly you will find them in Trumpeter´s BMP-3E kit.
But perhaps some other sources or posters can help you better. ;-)
greetings...

I think you are right about the paint, Karl. The kit instructions have a engine black, grass green and earth as the camo colors. These are all Humbrol colors and don't seem to match the photo.
NO. I won't be painting the tires camo. I have a very large supply of anthracite grey that will be perfect for them. I'll be posting photos of the hull in a couple of hours.

In my very humble opinion, for the colors of modern russian stuff, using eyes and pics is better than using color charts
