I'm getting close to painting my Dana SPG and trying to decide on its final color. I located a picture of one in a white wash scheme..and wondered if anyone had any other pics showing this scheme?? I have a right side view shown white wash over olive green from the Tankograd book.
Any help appreciated
Jeff

Those pictures are very difficult to come by Jeff. Even in winter operations it seems that these SPG's are normally left in their standard camo schemes. Take a look at this thread lespauljames' 1/35 Dana, you may find some useful links there.

Thanks Jeremy!!! I've been searching for the winter schem for weeks, looks like it might end up OD. The winter scheme looks so unusual it would stand out in my sea of green!
Maybe pull my artistic license for this one!!!

Go for it, and make a build log to share it with us!
Being that it's origins lie within the Eastern Bloc a lot of the information regarding this vehicle has been shrouded in mystery, so feel free to use your artistic license based on what little info is out there. It'll certainly be a very interesting piece

Hi Jeff
I've looked for white Dana but unfortunately i haven't found it
However I made some internet researches using the google advanced search tool.
I browsed just the pages written in czech language
Usually this is my trick to obtain from the net more references about the eastern tanks (...well actually I apply this method also for the others "foreigner" armours...). If the tank is russian, i browse the russian pages, if it is czech I browse the czech pages If it is Romanian....
Usually that works wonderfully, I have my HD plenty of rare pics
Using this method I've noticed that there are A LOT of Dana pics especcially in the modeller forums
Maybe you've already known but I hope that'll be useful for you
Cheers

Mauro, that is a very useful piece of information you have there. Would you be willing to post it as a separate topic to help enlighten more people to this method?

Mauro: Your English will be fine
Let me know if you have any trouble posting a new topic about it.
Jeff: This is a great site, great community which is exactly why I joined
And I agree about the DANA in whitewash, looking forward to your build!

I can confirm Mauro's search method works fine (I've been using it for quite a long time ) You can even use the language tool to "write" Russian AFV designations in cyrillic alphabet. It can be useful to broaden your search.
For instance BMP-1 = БМП-1

EXACT! ,either I do Frenchy
For exemple this morning I looked for references about the russian Ba-10 armoured car because yesterday I bought the Zvezda kit
Rather than write "Ba 10" in the browsing toolbar, I wrote БА-10 and I found a lot of interesting pics. Many of them were rare B/N original pics
Cheers

Sometimes it doesn't work as expected : if you search for "Дана" (Dana in cyrillic) you'll get many "interesting" pics but not many armor-related ones...

Yes that's it!
Otherwise, "A l'amour comme à la guerre" Frenchy

(ps: try to write "Dana" using the common browsing tool and then look at the images...You'll obtain the same result....well to be honest A NICE result)

Here's the scheme I was asking about... I love it!!
Yikes what is that???
Just a few missing details..
If I 'm going to show this...
I had to make the engine cover details...
Not again!!!!

Very cool camo you have there. Looks like you have been dedicating some time to details missed by HobbyBoss.

I agree, your Dana is coming along nicely Jeff! And I have been considering that same whitewash scheme on my own Dana when I actually have time to get around to it

Thanks! Hobbyboss really did well on the kit. The interior is lousy, but if ya button it up, wont be seen anyway! I was concerned that theyhad big issue with the rear stowage area...but all I could find is a missing panel line on the left side. The kit FALLS together!!! I'll post more as I go along..there seems to be lots of interest in the kit!
One big spot I found was the "port holes" in the cab. The interior has the holes , and they include the covers..but they molded them backwards? They should open in...but inside they molded a large bulge . I was going to fill em in, and redrill the holes. I would have to rebuild the covers, but decided to close it up. overall..its very well done.

I snapped a pic of the missing panel line...
Weird, it was on the top....but they didn't finish it down the side? oh well, I scribed it....moving forward!
Here's a lousy pic of the business end..
I really want the metal barrel from Panzer shop!!!

The build is looking real good Jeff.
How is the mould line looking on the barrel?
Frenchy: Could you write out 'BTR-80A' for me in Russian? Cheers.

Here you can find a cyrillic convertor. You have to write on the white space and then you can convert your word in cyrillic alphabet clicking on the "To cyrillic" command on the dropdown menu

Jeff, the camo is very interesting indeed and your Dana is stunning so far

I hope the barrel seam wont show.. hope to be in primer this week, so time will tell. The only spot I see being an issue is the lines running side to side, they didn't mold them completely..and had to add them.
AM tires would be welcome too..the stock ones are very tall!! My camo job should hide it..plan to have them covered in snow!
