Hello,

this is the sixth model I built. Now its ready to paint. The only thing I have to do are some "net" for the backdoors.

I have some questions:
- Do the ammo box holders have straps to secure the boxes?
- Should I add a shield to the M2 weapons station?
- Is the Dumvee painted sand yellow in the interior?

I plan to man the dumvee with 3 or 4 Figures (Legends Humvee Crew modiefied and a Figure from Masterbox in the back.

Do you have any sugestions for me?

By a coincidence I'm doing exactly the same model with Legends SF conversion.

What I can advise you is, yes the interior will be Sand/Desert Yellow, and the ammo boxes will be Olive Drab, there would be straps to tie down the ammo boxes. As to the M2 having a shield I'll leave that to better qualified members than me.

For only your sixth model, you show great talent. I'm sure I will be gleaning some modelling techniques off of you.

Hey Andy,
nice build so far, the legends set looks really good.
just had a look into concords 'us army hmmwv's in iraq' book
there are some nice pics of SF hmmwv's including a vehicle that'd almost perfectly match the model you've built. pm me for the pic if cou'll need it...
as far as I can tell the interior would be painted carc sand and the ammo boxes would be secured using rubber tie downs like these:

I haven't yet seen a dumvee in your configuration having a gun shield, though I wouldn't regard myself 'qualified' in terms of SF stuff

Cheers, Max

Wow, spectacular! What base kit did you use? Also, does anyone know if Tamiya's TOW missile humvee has all the necessary parts (i.e. brushguard) to use as the base for the Legends conversion?

Hello,

thanks for the advise with the straps. I think some copper wire after painting will do the job.

I use the M1025 Arment Carrier from Tamiya, but I think you can also use the TOW-version because you only need the chassis and the body and the hard roof.

Today I build the figures and finished the model for painting.

The driver is from Legend with BlackDog SF Head and Torso. The co-driver is also from Legend with Torso from a Verlinden SF-Conversion Kit. The soldier in the back is from Masterclub ("Soldier with cat") and a Verlinden head.

Btw, the hardest model I built till now was a stryker with slat and interiour:

Hey Andreas

Great job so far, this is a really clean build and the figures are very cool. To answer your question about the shield, I have not seen any dumvees in this configuration with the shield in place as it interferes with the smoke dischargers limiting the rotation of the turret.

The interior will in most case be sand, however I do have some pictures of dumvees with a full/partial green interior. PM me your email address and I can email you my reference pics if you want.

Im also building a dumvee but I decided to scratchbuilt some of the parts and use a couple of blast and pro art kits for the interior details.

@DS the tamiya M1046 can also be used as a base for the Legends conversion with no issues.

Can't wait to see this with some paint on it.

Anirudh

PS: the stryker looks good too.

Cheers for the references for the figures to go with the model. I was wondering what figures to use as there seems, at the moment, to be no 'dedicated' SF figures for the HUMVEE (with SF conversion).

The model looks great, and giving me a standard to work towards with regard to the same model I'm doing now.

this is looking realy great, need one to build one myself to

only 1 thing such a great model deserves the best, the cargo bay netting looks a bit to thick for me and I would make them thinner.

looking forward to the painting and the weathering.

Hello,

today I change the caro bay netings with thinner straps. Then I prepared the stowage. I hope I can use the most of it.

Hello,

some progress pictures.

All get some grey Vallejo Primer and the vehicle gets Vallejo Sand Yellow as base color. Some highlights are also placed. But I think, it looks to boring. Now I search for the right colors for some filters. Any suggestions?

Also I need a color for chipping. Green, dark grey or what?

This is really cool!

Just an idea...maybe you should add a box of Pepsi or Coke or Mountain Dew to the stowage for some neat color variation? There's a thread somewhere here that has printable soda boxes in 1/35th scale.

Keep it up!

I've always loved the idea of placing soda cases or other recognizable packaging on AFV's, but apparently it's not terribly realistic. Aside from never seeing soda cases anywhere in the actual theater aside from on base, I've heard from a couple OIF vets that they stayed far away from soda while they were on mission or patrolling. Water was an absolute necessity on those trips, and especially in smaller vehicles like Humvee's without much storage space, the only beverage soldiers wanted to have around would be water [and maybe a Rip it or two, but never a luxury item like soda that would dehydrate you faster].

That's what I've heard, I feel like someone who actually knows firsthand should chime in [Robert...?]

Sorry to stifle, because I often wish I could slap some coke cases on my Humvee's and Strykers and stuff...

Sorry Andrew but whilst soda boxes may add some colour to the build they aren't particularly reallistic. Neulingkerl, I believe this is the thread you were talking about.

If you do wish to add some colour to the build, Andreas, I would recommend some clear water bottles, either the Real Model or Accurate Armour ones as they are definitely something you would see in a humvee

hi Andreas

this is a great model im looking into the legends SF conversion this would be my next project for when i get the time! but this looks great got me tempted to buy it now! the figure in the back you said is masterbox is that a conversion from the iraq kit with the legs of two figures? that has to be my favourite figure in the crew
will keep my eye on this build though

Hey Anthony

The figure in the back is from Masterclub not Masterbox. Its their American soldier with cat figure. Heres a link to it on their site.

Great work, there seems to be a bit of a 'run' on the DUMVEE at the moment. There's yours Andreas and Anirudh's. Both are of a very high standard, and great inspiration for my current attempt at the same model with SF conversion.

I like the net idea, finishes off the model.

No intention to hijack this excellent thread. I've had just a couple of minor 'glitches' cross referencing from the Tamiya instructions and the Legends Conversion instructions. Nothing too dramatic, but does give rise to others who are going to model a Dumvee.

In fairness it may be me not doing enough research between the two instruction sheets, but I'd thought it be worth mentioning.
