The reason I find myself buying more kits is,as soon as I figure out what a kit will need (pe,barrel etc). Someone comes out with a new retooled version. So do I buy the latest or shop for the extras. Though in the past year I've made a committment to myself and will only buy what I want for my collection.

But that's not the point. I buy each kit with the intention of eventually building it, but knowing that I probably won't. My real desire is to have exactly the kit at hand when I decide that want to build that particular vehicle.

I'm the same. And I'm a figure painter also, so I have two stashes.

Last year I did a stash inventory and calculated that at my current pace of finishing builds, it would take me about 20 years to get through the entire stash ... and that's (a) assuming that I didn't add any more kits to it (a ridiculous and completely unthinkable notion) and (b) not counting the 1/35 scale Dora that my other half bought me as a surprise birthday present in 2008 and that's currently earmarked as a "retirement project".

But I derive a lot of pleasure from unbuilt kits also. I enjoy digging them out of the stash, going through the contents, reading up about the real thing, checking the instructions and thinking on how I'm ultimately going to tackle them. That I probably won't ever tackle them all is irrelevant - because like the man said, collecting is a hobby in itself (although I would add that I only buy kits that I actually have an interest in building & painting, I don't just buy any old kit purely for the sake of it).

I also factor into my buying decisions the fact that in the current economic climate, kit manufactures are going to the wall (certainly figure manufacturers like Elite, Seil, Elisena and a number of others), so you just don't know which firm will be next and how long a particular kit will remain available before the only option becomes paying daft money for it on eBay.

i did fail to mention in my earlier post about another kudo for swmbo. i am going to get 4 kits and told her i wanted to hang to them to see if down the road the limited editions would gain any value. she told me to get eight and build four and hold the other four four possible future value in a sale. now what more can a man ask for, as we are talking around 300 buck outlay all at once!

I have got around 35 kits at home:30 rare resin kits,5 plastic ones.A few years back,I started thinking:there's NO way that I could finish everything in a foreseeable future, therefore I started selling them on ebay,I made some pretty good profit with resin kits.At that time I just knew there's no point on buying further stuff:keeping them in hobby shops is a lot cheaper than 'storing' them at home.
A friend of mine just cannot stop buying kits,He has got over 2000 kits(not to mention PE sets, indi links...etc),I have told him to go seek help from a doctor,it is a kinda sickness.

glad I am not the only one (looks like we're all the same) with a stockpile of models that would amke most model shops jealous!

My current policy is to make sure I finish at least two builds before I allow myself to buy something new. but with EBay (trademe in NZ) sites, there are always 'bargains' to be had that can't be missed...

All good fun, and I find it hard to go past a Sherman that is a good deal without stopping to at least kick the tracks and ask for a test drive...!!

One day the wife will nudnerstand!

So similar to myself its scary........thank the stars for Trade me.....two on the way as we type

Big thanks to all you hoarders and stashers you keep the whole business moving along, my own way of working is "one at a time" as I know when the day comes when one is finished I can look forward to deciding on the next and all the fun of ordering and opening up a new box.

dude, that's cheating. Stashers' rule clearly states:
last man with most kits wins

As a recently outed hoarder. I'm out and proud and apparently in good company there seems to be more hoarders than one at a timers. I must say that this one kit at a time is all a bit masochistic to me. I like the instant gratification of going straight to my stash.

The size of my stash is in direct relationship with my mental disorder.

I'm a really sick man!
