I notice that the carrier film is showing around your decals, in order to prevent this occuring spray your model with a gloss cote (such as Johnson's Klear) apply your decals and then spray with a matt cote. The gloss finish allows the decals to lay down perfectly to hide the film and the matt takes the model back to the desired finish. That all said good work Neal

Thanks Darren...I would have never thought of putting a gloss coating on first. At the point that I took these pics, I hadn't applied the flat coat, only the softening agent.

I started the weathering. While seeing Mason put his Fruil tracks together, I decided I need to treat myself and order some for mine.

It's odd that once I get the pics loaded into a file for uploading, I see some of the areas I missed...it's almost like a quality assurance method....

Keep it coming Neal as I have enjoyed the journey. Dont forget to weather the teeth of the drive wheel. What you have said about pictures is a very good point as I always notice things in pictures that I miss with the naked eye.

This is looking good Neal, the one thing I would change is the aerial which looks to be way overscale and I would suggest it is changed with a horse hair of the correct length or thin wire.

I broke Dad's, I know he's going to put a wire one in place of the broken one

I realized that I didn't get any pics up with the tracks and one crewman on-board, so here we go!

That is a really nice looking model Neal. I will say the tracks look to still need some work paint wise, other than that great job.

Thanks Darren....I'm open for suggestions. I held off from dry brushing sand through all tracks, maybe I should?

They look very silver from the side view if you can provide a better picture of the tracks or say exactly what you have done to them members will be able help you.

Let me get some pics done. The sides are showing worn silver, as this is how I weathered them. These aren't Fruils as I wanted, they are the Magic tracks...I ended up with a bad pneumonia that sidelined me. Watching Mason build his Fruils for his F1, I didn't want to lose that amount of time to finish it, so I used the Magic Tracks. Can't say that I'm a fan of them, but something is better than nothing.

With that being said, I base coated them in black, then a combination of MIG light rust and black pigments. Once set with turpentine, I touched up almost leading edges of the tracks with a silver to appear worn down from sand and rocks.

If anything, I felt that they were too rusted.

I assemble the tracks completly and then spray them with a brown colour (I cannot give you an exact colour as it is a jar I pour all my waste brown Tamiya paints that have been thinned), after this I usually wash them with something like AK Interactive Winter Grime or similar. After that has all cured I use a pencil to detail areas where the tracks and the wheels come into contact. To finish I dry brush with a dark mettalic colour such as Tamiya Gun Metal.

The silvering you have used seems a tad heavy and if that is the finish you prefer I suggest you use a silver pencil rather than paint as it gives you less of a harsh contrast and is easy to control.

My goal is to go with well worn, even near fractured component (see front shot of track "jammed" at an angle) appearance. After being well into the build, I wish I had used etched fenders for better bending than what I achieved without heating the plastic...I have some to learn in this area.

I had never worked with pigments until buying and watching
Mason use the MIG set I purchased for him. In fact, I thought his work with his Fruils was far better than mine here, but he used the MIG Industrial Dirt pigment since he was going for a Euro theater look. I honestly don't know and can't track down good pics of DAK tracks up close to reference.

Here are some pics:
