I'm trying to improve my finishing/weathering skills. This is a model that I completed awhile ago and in the future I think I will paint the tracks, wheels and other items off the vehicle. The top of the hull is not glued in place yet as its easier to paint inside. Please let me know if I'm on the right track or any improvements.

Hi Robert. You´re definately on the right track. Great job with the camo. Get the top half glued down, and add some very dark pin washes and some very small chips to define the details (camo has a bad habit of hiding them funnily enough). I really like this one.

Really like the camo job. Looks really nice, nice runs, no spurts, etc.

I do believe most of the 75mm canons of that type were painted with the camo colors, rather than a 'gunmetal' color. I'm assuming it's a gunmetal color since it seems to match the color of the MG42.

Looks good to me, I'd say you are on the right track.

Pretty cool! The camo came out very nice. It's a good exterior job - I'd love to see what-all you have done inside!

I ditto Jesse on that gun - I, too, think it really should be camo'd or at least base-coat gelb right out to the muzzle - or so they seem to be in about all the pics I've seen.

These were late in the war, so maybe keep the wear and tear pretty lower-key?

Cheers!

Bob

You're right there with your painting skills. The camo came out great. Frank nailed it with the need for some dark pin washes to bring out the details. Also some dry brushing with steel and or aluminum would really bring out those details.

The front wheels and road wheels need to be cleaned up. I don't believe that they were "white washed" with the overal tone of the camo. I also agree with Jesse and Bob on the gun issue. I love the camo scheme. Very convincing. You are definitely on the right track.

The top is still not glued yet, going to make sure everything is right first. I added a second pin wash, I'm using vallejo sepia wash and it might not be showing very well. If it's still too light I could try and add some black to it.

Great improvement with the 2nd pin wash. You still need to concentrate on the recesses where the wash didn't hold. Add a little black, and let it dry before removing the excess. Over all, it's 100% better then the 1st set of pictures.

I added some black to the wash and hit the panel lines and recesses to try and define it better. Thanks for all the comments and help, I like the way the camo turned out so I rescued another build that had been sitting around and repainted it. Its still in the early stages but I'll try and apply what I learned on the 250 to the 251.

next project in progress:

Have to agree with Joel ... the extra washes show the details so nicely now. Nice interior as well. Now .... same again with the 251

You nailed it. Looks great. The weathering and the pin washes are a 1,000 % better then your 1st set of pictures. It's the little things that really makes it and takes it to the next level.

Looking forward to your next remodel.
