Alec, this is coming along very nicely indeed! Congratulations on making such good progress. One minor nitpick is the .50 M2 which appears to be painted in a silver color. US Army weapons were painted in a dark grey parkerized finish which would appear much darker and less metallic than you have rendered it. Also, the ammo box would be painted in OD to match the cradle and mount. Only the shells inside the box would be brass.
As for your weathering and your venue, I think you are right on in choosing the winter scene and moving the location into the forest rather than the bocage. You could easily get away with not white-washing but instead just making your M8 extra dirty and muddy with rain streaks and so on. One of my favorite photos of the little guy is this one which I have seen in a number of sources on US armor. You can see from the photo that it is well "lived in" by the crew and has taken on a pretty fair amount of mud, dirt and grime. I think it's a pretty good inspiration for what you are wanting to do.
Keep up the good work here!

Thanks! It doesn't seem like great progress, but good things take time right...like cheese

Agreed. I'm not at all happy with the .50 so will be giving the gun a wash with black and also will try and find the meaning of parkerized and do that!
Against my gut instinct, I followed the kit instructuions which have a big 'paint me gold' pointing to the ammo box...ill be redoing it in OD asap.

That's pretty spot on to what I had in mind originally I have it in my inspiration folder too, though it is so dirty I thought it was a white wash lol
Thanks for the encouragement!

While I wait for some Future to arrive from the states so I can continue my weathering (can't seem to find it here in NZ...) I have been browsing you tube and found this color film which shows an M5 (or M8) in winter but not with a whitewash! Made my day lol

Also shows a ton of stowage
Anywho, thought you all might like to see it (or not lol)

Can't believe this hasn't been archived yet
Sorry for year long absence! I reluctantly put this model on hold as we moved house not long after I started, and again just a month ago, so haven't really had the opportunity to work on it!
While unpacking, I found all my half completed bits and really want to get it finished now
During the 'break', my blog and all its images were lost during a synchronization with one of my PC's, so this thread is missing a bit of content.
Anywho, i'm going to get back into this in a short while (just have to finish renovating the baby room for my little boys pending birth).
Reason i'm posting now, is because i'm trying to find the tutorial which shows how to construct pine trees using those preserved little fern leaves and sticking them in a piece of wood. I can't find it for the life of me!
