Kevin- this is coming on real nicely. MP-40 looks spot-on and I think your display concept is excellent- it adds to the figure but it doesn't distract from the figure or overshadow it.

Thanks Karl, I'm having fun and I suppose that's the best thing. Ammo pouches repainted, this time with Tamiya Buff; wash should make them appear more “khaki like” I hope.

Examining face, I noticed a small dab of crud on right cheek; removing it marred paint so I touched it up a bit. While I had the paint out, I lightly added some accents and painted hair. Now it’s time for gloss coat.

Now that figure appears to have no more visible flaws, I’ve begun painting random patches of brown and green. This pattern may or may not be correct, but I like it.

Thanks Kev, I appreciate it. Entire figure will be gloss coated so that I can use oils and enamels for more subtle stuff, yet be easily removed in the event that I screw up, (which is almost a certainty).

Straps now all painted up, (mostly). Flat back for the waist belt, very dark leather brown for the strapping, except for one that’s IJN Gray. Once the rest of the pea scheme camouflage is applied, a dark brownish gray should dirty it up nicely.

What we have here is “fun with dots”. I thought this would take 15 minutes;… it took nearly two hours. As I said, I’m not a figure painter, plus I drink way too much coffeine. I doubt I’ll do much else to the uniform, save for painting the rolled up sleeves. I figure the colors on the inside of the sleeves will be a bit more subdued (inside of the fabric and all that), so I’ll lighten all my colors and then paint accordingly.

Kev- if you weren't a figure modeller before this then you are now!! Stunning work,
the scheme looks amazing and very cleanly done I might add.

Thanks very much fellas, I'm both stunned and flattered. From here on, it should be all downhill, (I think).

Beautiful job on the dots Kevin.
Did you use a brush or something else?I know what you mean about time. The first time I attempted digitl camo I thought the same thing.Hours and figures later I'm still trying to get it right.
Keep us posted.

Nope, just a 10/0 spotter. My biggest problem is way too much coffeine (drinking some right now in fact), and that creates its own problems.

for Pea camo, I'd think the caffeine overdose would be beneficial

Looking great! This figure looks better each time you post.

Painting is now complete; additional dots added, as well as boots and rolled up shirt sleeves; whole thing has been clear coated for some washes tomorrow.

How have I not seen this til now? This is really some stunning work, Kevin. You've got me thinking that I should order a couple 1:16 figures myself to practice before I have a go at the smaller guys. I am nervous about messing up my expensive figures for my dio, lol. Did you order the balsafoam online? I'd like to try that stuff out, I've seen some amazing things happen with it.
I really like this. I think you've done a fantastic job, can't wait to see more work from you!

Kev this is coming on very nicely. The wash on the pouches is nice and restrained. Will you be adding highlights to the pouches aswell?

Thanks for the kind words Brandi. Some of the Balsa Foam I have was ordered online, but most was purchased at Michaels. I find that the art & craft type stores have tons of stuff that's great for modelers. As to the figures, for the money, the Tamiya and Trumpeter 1:16 figure kits both seem to be pretty cool, and can be built as nice stand alone models, or factored into a display with 1:16 armor kits. I have a (still unfinished), 1:16 Jagdtiger conversion that I'll couple with a Jeep and American soldier, (some day).

I imagine I will, yes. After the washes are completely dry, I'll probably use a combination of dry brushing and pastels to finish him off.

As expected/hoped, washes have given a different look to figure as a whole. Next, I mask and paint the arms, and continue work on building and accessories.

Head receives a little more work. Eyes are painted with a light gray; after another clear coat, I’ll paint pupils and iris.
