Thanks again Zon. Base was made today from a scrap piece of pine I had laying around, & sprayed with a texture paint. Once dry, I'll probably airbrush a stone color on it, allowing it to (hopefully), blend into the scene above, so that they become one, (sort of).

Not happy with the wall as it looked, I decided to skim coat it with wall plaster. Once dry, I’ll sand and paint, adding pock marks, stains, etc.

Now that plaster has dried, a small bit of sanding and a repaint has commenced. I’m shooting for an off white, beat up & worn look, what I consider to be a suitable background for the figure.

Wall painted light gray, then some pastels smeared on.

Finally painted “French White”, and some details painted. Not the best wall around I realize; I may add yet more dirt to it.

With figure for visualization purposes; I think it’ll be more or less OK.

Certainly one concession I’ll have to make is the rubble pile. It seems unlikely that there would be so little rubble as I’ll be displaying, but I don’t want all that “stuff” to dominate the scene. Also, because the figure is molded flat footed, I can’t have him standing on tons of debris. Small blocks of balsa foam have been glued to base to act as a substrate for plaster/debris, with boards, jagged metal shards, wire, and the like glued on afterward.

I like the way the scene is coming on Kevin. I think you are spot on in not wanting to have the base massively cluttered- as you said you want the focus on the figure and the background as it stands looks very good. You should maybe consider adding some spent bullet casings too- thin brass rod is an easy way to create them.

My only criticism is that the wall appears quite clean- you mentioned adding some dirt too it and I think that would be a good idea.

Anyway, its coming on great- I'm looking forward to seeing it all put together.

While I tend to agree, I'm somewhat reluctant to make it too dirty, as that may tend to draw attention away from the figure. I'll probably finish figure, add rubble/debris, then determine if wall needs additional work to fit the mood of the little scene.
