hello all,
this is going to be my first build log on armorama
is started with this kit about two years ago in a campaign build about operation desert storm on a forum like this in Holland.
i put the kit away because i wasn't satisfied with the protectors on the front (PE) they were very difficult to create. since everything exists of loose pieces. maybe someone knows what im talking about:p
but now i continued the build and completed the protectors and am satisfied with the result.
take a look at how far i am by now, is used voyager upgrade set
for info on this vehicle check my website
the box and its content
this is the Voyager set:
these are pictures of about two years ago working on the doors etc
working on the front:
an then the most difficult part of PE i ever build, the protectors (how are they called?)
a dryfit:
updated the three seats:
a little more PE
an then i was ready for painting but realized they i could pretty easy improve the detail level of the model with brass wires and reference pics from primeportal:
how it would have been:
a few extra hours and you'll get a nice result!
well that's it so far.
this evening i did more detailing on the exterior of the kit (underneath the launch system) with brass wiring and evergreen.
ill post pictures of that tomorrow by daylight!
what do you think about it?
replys and feedback is very welcome!
thanks for looking

This changes my mind about the MLRS. I never thought it could sport so much detail. I would be very happy with the "protectors"/louvers. I can see how this would be dificult, especially with how fragile Voyager pe is. The addition of the wiring is a great idea. Looking forward to the rest of this build. I've subscribed.

Looks great so far. Hope to see more updates soon. I've got one on my stash and this may motivate me to get started.

Excellent work so far. The 'knock-out' mold marks look really significant on that kit. The photoetch that your adding greatly improves the kit. I will watch this project as it continues. Thanks for sharing your efforts.

it all depends on how much time and effort you put in the model
thanks for your reply!!

thanks, yeah there are a lot of knockout marks visible on the kit........
now back to the model
i scratched some more wiring on the exterior of the MLRS:
this is how it would look
this is how it looks now
by this time i airbrushed primer over the whole model and painted the interior in the right colour. i airbrushed the rocket pods and inside of the launcher itself also.
i will post pictures of that by daylight!
comments and tips are very welcome!

Hi Boris. Its amazing what some simple wiring can do and the extra effect it has! Very neat etch work as well. Shaping up nicely.

here is a update of the painting & weathering process!
i primed the whole model and painted the cabin and the rocket pods & mechanism .
here is the result of the rocket pods: only weathering left
the inside of the cabin:
the front:
a view from the side:
the cabin, lots of weathering to be done
the back
things to do at this point are:
- weathering and sealing the cabin so i can start working on the exterior
- weathering the rocket pods and inside / underside of the launch system so i can start working on the exterior.
what do you think about it so far??
thanks for watching

for updating this late, but I made quite some progress:
- everything is in base colour
- interior is fully finished, wheatered etc.
- details painted (not yet photographed)
Finished rocket pods:
Added more pigments to the cabin:
A finally finished interior
Painted some details:
The launchsystem:
wash:
Wheatered the doors and ceiling (I keep these parts separated)
Primer + preshade + basecolor:
So.... again a big update. I will try to keep updates more regular and thus smaller.
Replies about your thoughts are very welcome!

Impressive Boris. You are really doing this kit justice. The interior is almost perfect and the decals turned out very nicely. Will you be adding a crew to this or is it going to be a shelf queen? I'm definitely going to have to get one of these, before they go the way of the dodo. This is a big commitment, as I am currently working on my entry into Jaxcon and Nationals. Living in Florida, USA is perfect.

Nationals are always held in Florida. Regionals are usually held in the city I live in. I don't have to travel very far to get to either of them.

well, a small update. What i did:
- painted all the details on the MLRS
- some minor weathering with black paint
thats it, tomorrow I will clear coat it and start adding some washes. I will keep the weathering at a low level, as there was no heavy visible weathering on the MLRS.

First off, best wishes & happy new year!
I have made a lot of progress on the MLRS with the weathering process. here are the pics:
Here you can see the real steel cable I made. looks much better right?
The doors and roof:
Here I am working on the workable tracks:
This is where they are painted, added all the rubber pads. Only thing left is drybrushing to add more color and depth.
How do you think it looks this way? ready to seal with matte paint?
replies are very welcome.

Hi Boris,
Just ran across your build log here. Great looking vehicle! I have a couple of questions for you:
1. What did you use to weather the outside? It's very subtle, I like it.
2. Are the tracks you're using the ones that came with the kit or aftermarket?
I've got one of these kits in the stash, and am thinking about building the Dutch version:

hey!
(I'm dutch)
- for the weathering outside I used a Sludgewash (mix of soap, acryl paint & water). On the lower side, near the wheels I used a darker wash.
I also did some drybrushing.
- The tracks are aftermarket from AFV club and are very nice!
thanks for your interest

Its coming out well. A few corrections.
On the tracks, the rectangular pads on the back side with the bolt are also rubber and should be black as well.
I would also paint over or remove the INERT labels on the tops and sides of the launch pod containers too. These are only on practice rocket pods without actual rockets in them.
Lastly, Dragon messed up the ranks on the crew names. ASCP should be SPC for Specialist and SBG should be SSG for Staff Sergeant.
Keep up the good work.

ummm....
The IPMS "national" location moves depending on what club wins the bid for it. Last year it was in Nebraska, Before that Arizona... It hasnt been in florida for over a decade! Last time it was close was in 2005 Atlanta Georgia. But they are being held in Florida this year.
Great looking build so far! Insprired me to think about starting mine!
