they suddenly realized that the parts left over were meant for some thing

My favorite. Clearly someone with field experience in piloting Heavy Armor at word here. I can imagine those wet feet will be the least of poor Shultz' problems when he needs to explain what happened here. Though I wàs wondering about that birds nest for a while myself.
