Guys,
Started this as a Czech T-34/85, but somethign just told me to change it a bit. Set for Lebanon in 1982, just before it met the Isreali's.
Sorry for the depth of field, the aperature was not set correctly.
Comments welcome (but no political words),
Dave

Can't comment on finish accuracy - cuz I don't know. I think it looks good and well done.
One thing I do see (or think I see) are you going to drill out the barrel of the MG?

Dave, is this the Dragon kit? This looks well done. I've never seen that pattern i.e. the white spots before---cool!

Very eye catching. I like how you weathered the hull inside the tracks...very effective. I was going to ask the same question as MLD about the Arabic script on the turret. I don't know for sure, having never done a 1/35 T-34 and not having researched it at all, is there visible plumbing on the external fuel tanks? If so, adding that really sets off a Russian tank nicely. I recently saw a T-90 with its tanks plumbed and it just perks the thing right up.

Hey guys,
Thanks one and all for the comments. Yes, the question of accuracy is there as it was for me. But the scheme comes from someone I have talked to who was there) and a short reference mark in a book.
The actual colors (my photography skill is not that great, too bright) are pea green over a Russian green, with light sand sploches. I accented these with a touch of flat earth first then a light sand inside the spots.
Scott, look closly at that lil black spot, it is the gun tube drilled out! Just can not see it with "...the great phot shot...." #:-)
Al and Mike, thanks for the notice. I am not that good of an artist, therefore yes, these are from Woody's Archer Transfers.
Steve (WWH), this is the DML T-34/85 kit, but it does have CMD T-34/85 turret and Anubis Creations T-34 Czech Armored Exhaust Shrouds. The wheels are also from CMD.
I will have finished shots up later. Thanks for the comments.
Dave

Nice job, Dave, and an interesting paint scheme. I'm looking forward to more progress shots of it.
AJ asked:
From what I understand, no. They pumped the fuel into the tank's fuel tanks with hand pumps. The fuel cans on KVs are the same way. I think the ones hanging off of T-54s and T-55s are also "un-plumbed."

Well... my arabic is a bit rusty, but I interpret the markings as either:
"For a good time, call BG-745-0916""
or possilby if we are talking in the Krititik dialect which was used in a small corner of the northest of Lebannon - in fact, only in a small cafe on Al Ahmad Ave, then it would read:
"Why are you shooting at us, we can't afford sardines"
But that would be really strange, because they didn't serve sardines at the cafe...

Nice work Cdave. The T34 is one of favorites. A very interesting camo. Although the camera probably accentuates the spots, when this is all weathered in, it will really be effective. The decals are amazing and eventhough they are advertising sardines they are a lovely touch. Looking really good, and Im looking forward to seeing this babe finished up with tracka and all!

the accurate translation for the arabic writing on the turret is: eljabha a'sha'abiya litahrir falastin". meaning... the popular front for the liberation of palestine. the english letters fit too.

Shalom Ek,
I think that KF was pulling a bit of a joke regarding that translation.
I know what that translation is as I ahve been talking (for some time now) to the person whom gave Woody (Archer Transfers) that information. That and the fact that becasue of this internet thing, I have been in a bit of a conversation with an individual whom was outside of this particular T-34, just before it was killed by the Israli Army in 1982.
No politics here (and we Irish love politics) but you gotta love this internet thing with the meeting of minds it can give.

and another thing, from what i know, the first kill of an israeli defender helicopter (i think) was a militia t-34 in 1982.

cdave,
This is a very nice looking piece of work. Can I ask where you got the references for the colour scheme? I am interested in why such a paint job would be applied - it certainly looks effective.
Good build up of the kit as well - did you texture the turret yourself and if so what have you used for this?

Guys,
The turret took a gravity tet, but repairs were minimal, except for the paint. WIll ahve to see about this darn chipping thing to cover it up. Should have every thing done later this weekend (Hey, I do not have to paint the kids room as Lee does.....).
Lee, in answer to your question about the paint scheme, you will not belive it. Say, straight from the horses mouth (if you know that American saying). There was also an account in an IDF war paper that I have and the instructions in the Archer Transfer packet gives a slight reference.
But with this world of the internet, I was amazed that I received two seperate e-mails (both have been forwarded to the DOJ) from indivduals that were in Lebanon.

Hi
I'm planning to do a dio about israeli vs egyptian or sirian on the 67 or 73. I want to do two tanks: 1 is the m51 super sherman and the others is a t34/85. So i'm really interessed at your work...

Chao Venom,
This sounds cool and something that I like (modern and in the desert!). The idea of an Egytian T-34/85 is simple, but I would make a comment that many of the Egytian T-34's were from Czech sources. So minor modifications to the DML T-34 can add a wealth of info.
As for the Israeli's the '73 war period offered some fantastic potential AFV subjects. This T-34 is from the limited (and I do mean limited) AFV armament that the PLO forces had in Lebanon before they got their a** kicked out!
