Hi,

this is my first topic - please be patient if anything is wrong...

I'm addicted to post-apocalyptic scenarios and love series like "walking dead" or movies like resident evil.
So my idea was to build a diorama around a heavily converted PickUp, which was modified for one purpose - zombie hunting and surviving.

Unfortunately there's no real variety in civil cars in 1:35 or 1:32, so I had to choose 1:25.
Too bad, there's nearly no accessories and figures in this scale.
I got some stuff from Kitformservice, but many things had to be scratchbuild.
The WIP can be found here (in german, because that's my first language - but the pictures speak for themselves):

WIP article

Here some pictures of the completed diorama:

Any feedback is much appreciated!

cheers
Thomas

P.S.
Is there a way to preview my article?
It's a little bit annoying that I cannot control the layout before I post my topic...

Thanks for your feedback.

To answer your question, Ian:
No, I didn't sculpt these figurs.
I would like to be able to do that, but when it comes to sculpting, I've got two left hands and all thumbs :-(

The Girl with the axe is from Tartar Miniatures, the Zombie Girl can be bought from Knight Models.

Hi Thomas

I like this very much. This is a very original topic. The painting is well done. The Zombie feeling is very present (well, the zombie film feeling as i don't know how a Zombie feeling should be)

After posting you have some time to edit your post if you made errors.

Welcome to the board

Great Dio! Very well executed (did I really just say that?) Ahem, very well DONE. Think you pulled off the look just right. Excellent work.

You know, I have to say that dioramas like this are really opening my eyes to the opportunities that the modern vehicle models have to offer. I never really gave them much thought until recently but there is much, much more that you can do with these models other than a straight build. Your dio shows what you can do with a modern model, a bit of time and some imagination. The results are awesome!

Great work on this I can see the potential of zombie modelling taking off. I really like the building interior details too where you get that quiet feeling of a previous zombie attack. Congrats

Great dio dude! Refreshing change from military subjects. Ol' girl really has it going on in the rear! Feel like such a pervert for admitting that!

Hi,

first of all - thank you all for your positive feedback.

It's difficult for me to find the correct words, but it't good to know that there's someone out there who appreciates the efford.
Interestingly it seems to be more the modellers than the figure painter who do so.
... but that's another story...

Art, regarding your remark "Ol' girl really has it going on in the rear!" I'm not 100% sure if I got you right, but probably I do.
Please keep in mind, even for Zombies is generally accepted, that the eye must be pleased...

For all you Zombie addicts, here one picture from the Comic Con 2012:

Good info, it's hard to find good looking figures in 1/24 - 1/25.
Your paint and weathering is on point.
Your diorama idea is outstanding

Nice work. Definitely a fun subject, as well as a break from the usual military subjects. And nice nod to Resident Evil's Umbrella Corp.

Hi,

I'm happy to hear that the diorama finds your favor.

As you already wrote - this is something different as the other, mostly military dioramas.
I didn't want to do another Tiger tank or abandoned T34 or any other matter, that has been done hundred times before - and hundred times better than I would do it.

That is my second kit during the last 5 years, and before I did about ten diy slotcars.
So it's easier to stand out from the crowd when you do something new, especially if you cannot do it better than others

Regarding the nod to Umbrella Corporation - I have a bunch of custom made decals - all with motives of Resident Evil. There will be definitely more dioramas around this topic - maybe next time with WIP-report - stay tuned

Hallo Thomas,
Wunderbar! The Walking Dead and other Zombie films are my favorite genre of movies. You did an excellent job on this diorama. Very original and the painting and weathering are spot on! Great job. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Tschuess!

Very nice diorama. I like the Umbrella Corporation sticker on the truck. You also did a fantastic job painting the figures.

Very nice work! I'd love to see more zombie themed dioramas. I've been considering doing a WWII zombie dio for a while now, but I am not very good with figures, to say nothing of modifying them to be zombies.

The only nitpick I have is the gun mounted on your truck- if you are up against "true" zombies that can only be put down with a headshot then a large caliber machine gun will probably only serve to make a lot of noise and attract more zombies. Of course, it looks awesome and it would serve to fight off hostile human survivors.
